    Problem with avi playback

    Hi,
    I have been having trouble recently playing divx's, I have mainly been using media player, but have also tried the bundled player with the 5.02 codec. Media player keeps trying to download a decompressor but not finding one, and the bundled player just won't load the file at all. I tried to load up the file in virtualdub as has been suggested in previous posts, and got the following error message:

    --------------------------------------
    Couldn't locate decompressor format 'XVID' (unknown)

    VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.
    --------------------------------------

    I have installed both the 5.02 and 3.11a codecs
    Any ideas?

    Cheers,
    MrT

    xvid is NOT divx

    you will have to install XVID to be able to watch the file

    click on my upper anigif, go to downloads and download the tsunami M I N I filterpack.

      Ok, downloaded and installed, but how do I play the file? Media player and the bundled player still have the same problems

        use wmp 6.4 or media player classic to run the file
        wmp 6.4 should be availabler through the command:

        RUN => mplayer2.exe

        media player classic must be downloaded
