audio but no video (...once again)

    hi all,

I´m trying to play an *.avi and a *.mpeg file (said to be divx files)but only get audio but no video.

tried to find out what kind of files they are and what codec is needed but evev gspot ver 2.0 does not help.

i tried with windows media player 7.1 and GDiVX, installed codecs 3.11 + 4.12 and the recommended smr-patch but it´s still not working. OS is windows 2000, graphic card Xelo Geforce 4 MX 400.

Could anyone tell me what else I can try, im really desperate now

    thanx for any response

Try having 5.02 installed instead of the older 4.12.

enchanter: thanx for the hint, but even 5.02 doesn´t work.
This time the player (DiVX 2.0 now, from the bundle) does not even open the file, sending an error msg that it is no valid divx-file...
      geee, this is getting frustrating...

      any other ideas?

It might be an MPEG-2 file. Open the file using a DVD player software, such as PowerDVD or WinDVD.

load the file into GSPOT and see if it recognizes the codec

              UncasMS:
as mentioned in my first message I already tried GSpot (Ver. 2.)
and it is unable to recognize the video format.

I start thinking there is something wrong with that files even if I don´t get an
                  error message ....

In order to determine which codec(s) you need for a particular .AVI, you should do the following:

                    1) Load the file into VirtualDub or NanDub

                    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

                    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (both video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

                    Comment

                    Working...
