    Help for Pianist

I am having problems playing back The.Pianist.DVDRip.SCREENER.XviD-QiX.cd1.avi
I have tried all sorts of codecs, i have uninstalled all my old codecs and reinstalled only the xvid codecs, but nothing has worked. it continues to look like this
does anybody have any suggestions? i would greatly appreciate it if someone could get this to work for me

Did you try the ffdshow filter? That worked for most people having similar problems.

Have you tried viewing other xvid movies in media player? If they work fine, then it seems to be the movie that is the problem. I suggest trying BSPlayer.

"a few of the other people that have downloaded this movie are having the same problem as i am, but not all of them"

In that case, the rip is a good one, just seems to be a codec issue... I wonder, did you install the Nimo Codec Pack? Also, since you got the file from a site im also familiar with, try posting on their forum in the thread named "The Pianist" or similar. People who got the same file and are having problems post there.

i dont really know what a crc is but if it is an error, it is strange that it should be in both files, i would be interested to know from the other gentelman if his file had sound. thanks again

The audio works just fine for me, you need the AC3 digital audio codec

                      got the same problem

i've got the same problem with the pianist: however, i've downloaded ac3, but now when I try to open the windows media player file it says: "media player has encountered an error and needs to close" and that's it. Got both the xvid and ac3 codecs, but to no avail. Do you guys have any ideas? i would very much appreciate them...

                      thanx so much

                        I was reading on
                        Doom9.org that installing the latest
ffdshow alpha will fix the crashing for no reason

                            I dunno...

I don't know, guys, but I didn't have NEARLY as many problems as you all seem to be having, so I'm gonna tell you EXACYLY what I did.

                            1) Opened WMP.

2)Went to the "Help" drop-down list and did an upgrade

3)Installed 3 codec.exe's; Divx codec 3.11 alpha.zip, XviD_Install, and XviD-04102002-1 (sorry, I can't remember where I found them, but I'm sure you all know how to find stuff: in a word, Google.)

                            4)Restarted my computer.

                            5)Played the file in WMP.

I noticed that many of you are having problems playing an XviD file, "8 Mile." Well I downloaded it last night, and it played magnificently.
Now here's some info that I at first thought wasn't important, but now I think it may be pertinent; I'm running Windows Me, WMP 7, and I don't have any other multimedia players on my system (unless you count MusicMatch and Winamp as multimedia.)
