    video stops, audio keeps going

    Hi,

Has anyone experienced the problem when watching a
movie and the video all of the sudden stops as
the audio keeps going? Is there any way to fix
    this?

    Thanks

    Some specificity would be beneficial...

    1) What is the format of the video?

    2) Did you create the video (or did you download it)?

    3) What are you watching it on, your PC or your TV via a standalone DVD player?

    4) If you created it, what software did you use and at what settings?

    5) Is this the only file you've had a problem with?

    6) Is this the only file you've tried to view?

      Hi,

      1) The video is in the avi format but I have gotten this problem with asf and mpg as well.

      2) I downloaded the movie.

      3) I am watching it on my PC.

      4) I did not create it.

5,6) I've had this problem happen with other movies I've downloaded and watched before as well.

      Thanks.

      Jim

"The video is in the avi format but I have gotten this problem with asf and mpg as well."

Since it's happening with multiple formats (and, I presume, obtained from multiple sources), my guess would be that your problem is player-related. Which player are you using? Try using a player other than the one you normally use.

I mainly use Windows Media Player 6.4. My backup player is Realplayer. I try not to use Realplayer because unless you start at the beginning, it takes a long time for it to buffer in order to start playing in the middle. Do you recommend any other players?

I'm "sorry" to say, that i was going to recommend that you switch TO Win Media Player v.6.4, because it's the most reliable.

Are you playing these videos from your hard drive or CD? If from your CD, check to see if you can change the state of DMA(Control Panel/System/Device Manager/CDRoms) from either unchecked to checked or vice-versa.

Also, under Control Panel\System\Performance\File System\CD-ROM, set "file cache size" to "Large", and "Optiimze" to "Quad speed or higher".

I always play them from the hard drive. I can't stand it when it is jerky.

              Thanks anyway.

for avi files i recommend u to use the "The Playa" which should be downloadable along with DivX4.

for mpgs and wmv/asf files i recommend u to get the latest Version of Windows Media Player, but get a copy of version 6.4, it is good to play back some older videos.
There is also a codec package downloadable from Microsoft for the latest Version of Windows Media Player get it too

Be sure to have installed the Radium MP3 Codec from Fraunhofer Institute!

                Then all vids should work
                The Grandadmiral was here!

La Playa did it! It went right pass the spot where it stopped with Media Player.

                    Thanks.

                      Fix

A fix for this can be installed.

                      I found it at doom9.net

It talks about a freeze when reaching bad frames within an AVI file.

what you describe sounds like FROZEN FRAMES.

                        for divx3 try divx antifreeze
