Audio but no Video

Greetings, I am trying to play a downloaded AVI file, the audio plays fine in both Windows Media Player 7.1 and DivX Player V2 but....No video. I downloaded GSpot and in the Video Format field it reads: GSpot has found XviD MPEG-4 Video Decoder, which is installed on your system, is a compatable with this format; based on that, the video for this file should play fine.

DirectShow is apparently able to play the file as well [See DirectShow Render" below], though it has selected a different CODEC, the XviD MPEG-4 Video Decoder -- AVI Decompressor-- Colour Space Converter,--- no further information is available on this 'discrepancy'- it is unlikely to be a problem though.

Going to the Comments/Metadata field, there are 3 entries, at the top it reads-Code - ISFT,Name- Software, Contents - Nandub v1.Orc2
Code - Junk - (ASCII in Junk), name - software Contents - Nandub Build 1852

Can someone please tell me what to do???!!!

Hi, I downloaded and installed the latest ffdshow as you suggested, what do I do with it now?? I installed to default (ffdshow) directory, but there doesn't seem to be an executable file there?? What is this nandub v1.Orc2 file that GSpot is talking about, do I need some more software?

this is a filter, and there is no need to have any software for it...

you may (as a last resort) try the tsunami codec pack. avalible at UncasMS' site, or go to my sig.

ffdshow should act as playback filter

run the ffdshow-config and make sure to have XVID ticked in the codec settings (at the top left in the settings menue)

then try playing your file with wmp64

Thanks, but I think I have screwed up downloading the ffdshow, I can't find any config file to setup or do I use something else??

something like this might give you the settings:

RUNDLL32.EXE ffdshow.ax,configure

or rightclicking in e.g. wmp64 in NONfullscreen mode MIGHT lead to the same ffdshow settings in case ffdshow is being in use for the playback of the particular file that is played in wmp64

Hi, tried the rundll32 thing and got an error message saying could not find ffdshow.ax, so I went looking and it is definitely there??

Sorry about this hassle, but I'm nearly out of hair to rip out.

BTW, what is WMP64?? is this the standard windows media player, because mine says version 7.1??

Thanks, I downloaded the tsunami 399, do I now run GSpot, identify the specific codec then run tsunami.exe to install it?

How do I point the file to the right CODEC?

Finally, what is nandub, and do I need it

nandub is a video editing programs, freeware and one of the best ones.
it is basically a hacked (with permission) version of virtualdub. it handles audio way better than vdub. I don't think that this is relevant though...

install the tsunami and see what you can play, and if it works.
