    A wierd playback problem..

I have got some XviD files that I have been trying to playback.

I started with MP9 and got no sound or video, just black, though at least it was in widescreen

I was able to convert these to VCD, with sound, but it was winding me up that I couldn't play the originals.

So I came here and tried a few of the suggestions, ffdshow and Gspot etc, and went looking for what was suggested and I got pictures but still no sound.

Gspot told me that it didn't have the codec for the pictures but did have for audio. This made no sense.

Now the really wierd bit. I just stumbled on this.

If I open the movie in either RealPlayer or MP9 the it opens with no sound, but if I then open it, at the same time, in the other player then it starts with the sound playing properly. I can then close the first player and watch the movie. It makes no difference which player I open first, but I have to open it twice.

So thats it really. Does anyone know why this is happening? I guess I have found a fix for my problem, but it's not an ideal one.

    use a decent player

run mplayer2 from your RUN command in order to start gool-ole wmp64 or download bsplayer or zoomplayer.

      Thanks for the quick answer.

I have tried BSplayer, but with the same result as with the others. A picture but no sound.

mplayer2 I hadn't tried, but got the same result again.

Whilst the movie ran silently in mp2 though I was able, once again to open it in MP9 and watch it with sound.

I really have no idea what is going on here

click the second picture in my signature, go to my page, download tsunamis filterpack 399

install it via CUSTOM routine, keep all defaults

        play your file

        +++++++
        Thanks for the quick answer.

          Thanks again Uncas.

Should I remove any of the codecs I already have?

I think I only have ffdshow on now

It was a name chosen for online gaming, for which it is quite appropriate. It just kinda stuck.

It is not really so appropriate for use on forums, but then again most people on the forums I go to have no idea what it means anyway.

Well I installed, but I have a warning from windows that some files needed for it to run have been changed and telling me to put my service pack CD in.

                Should I worry about this?

                    yes and no

yes, if you ever thought M$ were creating perfect software

no, if you want to get along with your digital video stuff

                    IGNORE this stupid message!

if you dont, your OS will install its own crappy codecs again!

Duly ignored. (the stupid message, not your sentence )

Sadly still the same problem, no sound in any player I have, until I start the file in 2 at once.

                        - did you reboot your machine?

                        - which player?

                              Still exactly the same.

Ah well, it's not as if I can't play the files, its probably time to just call it a day.

Thanks again for all the help.
