    Codec Problems... :(

    hi people.. im having major problems with codecs in that i cant get anything to work. i got divx working fine.. but i couldnt get the sound with Xvid to work. so i installed the ac3 codec.. and thats when the trouble started.. now i have no idea how to get rid of it and i cant play Any movies.. even mpeg's. what i would like to do is start again from scratch and then use the advice from these forums. .but how can i start again without reinstalling windows?
    thanks for your help..

            oki have installed it.. but it still isnt working. it now opens the movie.. i get a picture.. but then windows media player messes up and it closes.. this happens every time.. im pretty sure the problem is due to a dodgy ac3 codec i installed.. but as i say i cant see any way to remove this. thanks

                  Hi,

                  I had the same problem, but I managed to solve it.

                  (I'm using Windows XP)

                  Open a command prompt and type in the following commands to unregister these two codecs (assuming that you installed them):

                  regsvr32 /u iviaudio.ax
                  regsvr32 /u mmswitch.ax

                  Just leave mpgaudio.ax registered. It solved my problem.

                  SK

                    @cx330

                    i wouldnt know what the intervideo audio decoder and morgan stream switcher have to do with the problem.

                    anyone else with this same problem/solution?

                    @donny
                    just a typical installlation..

                    hmm, i never suggested this routine or treid it.

                    CUSTOM with all defaults is my one and only advice

                    very likely *typical* will not install some importatnt codecs.

                    if i were you i'd try this:
                    UNINSTALL 399

                    restart it, select CUSTOM and keep all defaults.

                    i would like to hear some feedback on this if possible

                      ok people... heres where im at
                      by opening the install.bat of the ac3 codec i could see that it was registering 2 codecs, and installing them in windows\system\
                      so i unregistered them and deleted them. this fixed a couple of issues.. for example most of my music videos (.m2v) seem to work. but not all work and not very well... so i am still having problems.. this was after removing tsunami and reinstalling as advised. when i tried to play the xvid it didnt work.. and windows media player crashed.. it keeps doing this. i really have no more ideas. Need help! thanks people.. i appreciate it

                            the tsunami codec pack contains a tool named CODEC SNIPER, which tsunami wrote.
                            this tool will let you uninstall all codecs.

                            i have no idea how to get rid of wmp
