Audio & Playback problems on the XP platform

    Hey there all

Well, my set-up on a laptop with Windows XP Home Edition is making my life hell. Hardware is AOK.

I use three players for my AVI files:

    Windows Media Player Version 9.0
    BS Player Version 0.8
    DivX Player Version 2.1

All three have trouble with audio playback on the same AVI files. The tag I get from one of them is the well described Tag 8192. I have therefore read many of the posts here, and have downloaded and installed the following:

    5. GSpot v2.1
    4. ffdshow-20020617.exe
    3. Tsunami Filter Pack 399.exe
    2. DivX-Ac3-Codec.rar
    1. DivX505Bundle.exe

Now I still have the same audio problems with the same files, but furthermore, the three players crash completely on start up.

I have run the Gspot system to see if I have the correct codecs and I do. Please see the attached ZIP containing Word document for screen dumps from GSpot, and the message I get regarding run errors from Media Player.

    Thanks all for your help!

Uninstall all of that stuff (codecs). More than likely you have a conflict between 2 or more.

Re-install Tsuanmi 3.9.9 again. REMEMBER to fully uninstall it first though.

Tag 8192 is the AC3 codec

      why re-download tsunami again??
      if at all re-INSTALLING.

      install this ac3 filters:
Download AC3Filter for free. It is DirectShow AC3 Decoder filter used to palyback AVI files with AC3 sound tracks and DVDs. Multichannel and S/PDIF support.

          Done all that

          hey there Guys

OK, did uninstall, and reinstalled only the Tsunami Filter Pack, following the custom installation but changing nothing.

Then, I downloaded and installed the ACFilter_0_68b.exe and after multiple reboots, I get the following results:

          Windows Media Player Version 9.0
Now can playback the Audio, but can no longer show the visual

          BSPlayer Version 0.8
Gives an error saying "Unknown file format (DIVX)"

So, now what do I do?

I really am thankful for your help!

you need one of the DivX Codecs.

            Open your file in VirtualDub

Under "File" click on File information and post EVERYTHING is says

              Virtual Dub

Ok, downloaded VirtualDub 1.5.1 for P4 processors

Tried opening file, and got this message

"Couldnt locate decompressor for format "DIVX" (DivX 4+). VirtualDUb requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as used by Media Player, are not suitable"

BTW: Tried opening another film AVI file with VD, and all I got was empty frames. When I try to play it, I get an error saying "VideoSourceAVI: Uncompressed frame is short (expected 397824 bytes and got 655)

dont know, what you did wrong in the tsunami pack.

since 399 uses ffdshow for playback, go get yourself the latestes version of FFDSHOW ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow/ ) install ffdshow and make sure that ffdshow plays all possible codecs (you'll be asked at the end of the installation)
