Help! Installed Divx 5, now nothing will play

I had some Divx 5 AVI's I wanted to play, so I installed the new Divx 5.

Now none of my AVI's will play, even the ones that used to.
    I also installed ffdshow.

According to GSpot, I have something like 40 codecs on my machine!!

With that many codecs, your machine might very well have too many codecs installed. Either uninstall some, or reformat your computer.

BTW what EXACT version of divx 5 did you get?
Did you know you can SEARCH the forum? Fixes common problems too:

Also search on the whole Digital-Digest website:

        I downloaded Divx 5.0.5 directly from divx.com.

How do I make ffdshow the default?

Go to Configuration >> Codecs. Enable the entry for fourcc type "DivX 5".

            Ok, thanks.

I can play AVI's now, including Divx 5, but only with the Divx Playa, not with Media Player.

Weird thing is, when I try to associate AVI's with the Playa instead of Media Player, it won't take!

And it won't let me delete the file type....it's ghosted.

Configure WMP so that it does not handle AVI files (i.e. untick the option). Then set The Playa to handle AVI files. Failing that, give BSPlayer a try.

                How do you

How do you remove codecs once you find them with GSpot? Many do not show up in "add/remove programs" in windows. More specifically, I used GSpot to check my video codecs after trying to remove all divx codecs and it came up with this:

(copy and paste the URL, I don't think tripod will let me link to the pic)

There's that one unregistered divx codec... I'm not sure how to find it... this worries me!
