Playing movies on pc and watching them on tv problems

Hi! I'm trying to play movies on my pc and watch them on tv using my Gforce 4 with TV out and I get a black square where should be the movie. I can watch them on my pc but there's no image on tv meanwhile I can see the desktop and the program window I am running at the moment (eg WM player or Microdvd etc). I have an Athlon 1.7 processor with 256 RAM - WM player 9 - bs player - microdvd and windows xp. The codecs are 311 alpha, divx4 and the pack nimo codecs full with Vobsub for the subtitles.
I used to watch movies from pc on my tv set but I really don't know what I did wrong. Could someone help me? Thank you

check twin-view options for your second monitor (i.e. tv)

Playing movies on pc and watching them on tv problems

I've already checked the twin video box on my gforce 4 nvidia setup. I can see the same screen on tv. I even can see the WM player window on the TV screen but there is no image where the movie should be meanwhile it is already playing on the pc video. It seems it is a wrong configuration on one of the codecs I am using, but I have no clue what is it. I have been watching movies from pc to tv for a while with no problems. I made some changes on the codecs divx 4 and vobsub to see the subtitles in WM player 9. Then the problem started. Even if I set the codecs to default, uninstall all of them and install again I get the same results.
Apparently there's no problem with my video card since I can see the twin screen on my tv set.
Is there a way to make sure to have all codecs unisntalled and reinstall them again?
      Thank you.

I have the same problem with my new ATI Radeon 9000 card (still don't have enough experience with it).

I managed to play the same avi and mpg files on TV correctly with VirtualDub or QuickTime, but not with WMP 6.4 or RealOne. Even with PowerDVD sometimes I had correct playback, and sometimes not (I'm talking about the same video files).

First, check that TV-out is working (never hurts to double-check).

For ATI cards, Go to Display Properties\Settings\Advanced\Displays
Btw, most tvs only support a max of 800x600 resolution so you have to set your desktop resolution to at most 800x600. You also have to adjust your refresh rate under the \Monitor tab.

On one laptop with ATI card you had to set the tv-out as the primary output device since overlay would not play on a secondary display some directshow issue I take it.
                      - The question is: Why?
