I recently downloaded an mpg file to play in my Phillips DVD Player...I usually have no problem in doing this, but I have this one MPG file that my DVD player will not read. I decided to try and see if I could convert it using the TMPGEnc program, but when I tried to add it to the conversion program, it would only convert the audio, not the video. Any help

when i tried to put the file into virtualdubmod...i got an error when i tried it. IT says
"could not located decompressor for format MP42, Microsoft High Speed MPEG 4 V2"
"Virtualdubmod requires a video for windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by WIndows Media Player, are not sutialbe."
BY this is would guess that the files is am MPEG 4
any other help of how i can convert thisComment

"could not located decompressor for format MP42, Microsoft High Speed MPEG 4 V2"
This file is NOT an MPEG file, rather it is a compressed .AVI file - and it was compressed using the original Microsoft (MPEG4 - which is not the same as eother MPEG-1 or MPEG-2) codec. You can usually find this codec included in most any of the multitude of available "codec packs".
Once you've downloaded and installed this codec, TMPGEnc will happily convert the video as well as the audio...Comment

I downloaded a codec package and instaled it. I put the file into the TMPGE program and this time it accepted the file, i started the conversion, and it starts fine. It gets to about 1% and then it stops, an error message comes up and it says, "Illegal MPEG Audiostream." I could be doing something wrong. Any answers?Comment

Once again, load the original file into VirtualDubMod
1) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"
2) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box
The audiostream is probably in either .AC3 format or Variable Bitrate MPEG Layer 3 (VBR .MP3).
If it proves to be .AC3:
In TMPGEnc, under the "Environmental Settings" "VFAPI plugin" tab rightclick on the "Direct Show Multimedia Reader" and increase to the highest priority. This will enable TMPGEnc to accept a properly encoded .AVI with .AC3 audio for input...
If it proves to be VBR:
Converting .AVIs with VBR-MP3 Audio
Simply use NanDub (or VirtualDubMod) to save the audio stream as an Uncompressed PCM (WAV) file as follows:
Load your original .AVI into NanDub
Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"
Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"
From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Compression" and choose - and choose "No compression(PCM)"
From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save WAV" (Enter a new filename with a ".WAV" extender).Click on "OK"
Then save the .AVI as a silent .AVI (set "Audio" to "No audio" after you've saved the WAV file).
Open TMPGEnc and "drag and drop" the silent .AVI onto it, then do the same with the .WAV fileLast edited by setarip; 19 Jul 2003, 04:52 AM.Comment

Boy, this is a lot of effort for 16 minutes and 51 seconds of pornography ;>}
(The following MAY generate an "unable to" error message)
1) Load the original file into VirtualDub
2) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copy"
3) Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"
4) From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Conversion" - and choose 48,000Hz
5) From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Compression" - and choose "No Compression (PCM)"
6) Save with a new filename
Use this file with TMPGEnc...Comment

i dont have a audio tab on this version of VIRTUALDUB..it is the 1.5.1 version...is there a newer oneComment

"i dont have a audio tab on this version of VIRTUALDUB..it is the 1.5.1 version"
VirtualDub v.1.5.1 DOES have an "Audio" dropdown menu tab. If you are referring to VirtualDubMod (a modified variant of VirtualDub), in that version the tab is labelled "Streams"...Last edited by setarip; 21 Jul 2003, 05:20 AM.Comment
