    Playback problems on a Mac...

Some of my AVI files have been showing up without video, but with perfect sound! When I try opening them with QuickTime it gives me a message that it can't be played because the needed compressor cannot be found. I have both the latest Divx and 3ivx decompressors, and am getting very confused. Is there anything else out there that will help on OSX? I have tried Disk Doctor, but it doesn't help with the picture.

    Please help?

If you have access to a PC, download and install virtualdub and check the "file information" to determine what codec was used to encode the video. The codec may not be compatible for the Macintosh platform.

Do all codecs which are compatible with the Mac platform come with Divx and 3ivx?

Divx and 3ivx are two codecs based on mpeg-4. Other codecs, such as XVID, I believe, do not support the Mac platform.
Obviously, the first step would be determining the exact codec used to encode the file, and then finding a Mac version for it if neccesary.
