sinchronizing audio with video

I have been capturing videos made with my analog videocamera to the computer with a pinnacle capture card and produced vcd and mpeg files perfectly. But i was not satisfied with the video quality. I came upon dr. Divx 1.02 and tried to compress the .avi file produced by the pinnacle software. The quality was perfect, even better than the vhs itself, but the audio is not synchronized with the video in the mpeg4 file produced by divx. The audio is about 20 seconds slow on the video.
How can i solve that problem because this is the quality i need.

a tool named *synchronizer* might be of help or loading the file into virtualdMOD and applying corresponding interleaving settings might help.
