No Vidoe or Audio - WinXp / Divx 2.5

I am trying to play an .avi file and when I open the player it runs, but there is no video and no sound. The counter runs though like it is playing.
I have tried installing codecs from Nemo and Divx, but I have the problem stil.
Same if I try to pay it on Windows Media Player.

I have tried downloading FFDShow and that didn't change it either.

    1) Load the video file into VirtualDub (or one of its many variants) or NanDub

    2) From the "File" dropdown menu, select "File Information"

    3) Post (here) EVERYTHING you see (BOTH video and audio information), or post a screen capture .jpg of the information box

      Virtualdub couldn't open the file.

-Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DX50'
Virtualdub requires VFW compatiple Codecs to decompress video.

      What does that mean?

I have the Divx Player 2.5 and the free download package that came with it.
Does this mean I have to pay for the Pro package? I thought I could just use the Divx or other player.
