xvid plays, no other divx will

I use the latest version of bsplayer to play all of my .avi files. For some reason none of my old divx movies I have will play. I use g-spot and it finds codecs for audio and video but I either get just audio with a gray screen, or often bsplayer will just give me a weird frozen staic image and bsplay will crash. Anything I can do to fix this? I even tried that Tsunami filter and got rid of all my codecs, then reinstalled all the codes in the pack. Any help is greatly appreciated,

Try FFDShow to decode both DivX- and XviD-compressed .avi files.

when ffdshow is installed, run the configuration or play a file which should use ffdshow, then rigfhtclick into your player for the ffdshow configuration.

            you will find CODECS.
set your mpeg-4 formats like divx3-5 + xvid to LIBAVCODC
