Best choice for subtitle format? SRT? SUB?

What's the best choice of formats for subtitles in an OGM container? Or any container for that matter?

I have been using SRT subtitles, but I hear for that format, you need to have the subtitle filename the same as the OGM/AVI/MKV file. Which really isn't possible for what I'm trying to do since I want to have two subtitle streams.

I'm using SubRip, which supports a multitude of subtitle formats. Is anything better than SRT for what I'm trying to do?

    nope

you misunderstood my reply in that other subtitle posting!

when using SEPARATE subs with avi files the most simple way is to have identical names of avi and subtitle

when muxing multiple subs into an ogm container there is absolutely no need for identical naming

use whatever name suits you best for your subs in an ogm container!

Normally I always use the .SRT format, because this format takes the least disk space (very small files). This leaves you more cd space for the video data

Ok. I get it now. Do you know of a way to get subtitles to work with The Core Media Player? I cannot for the life of me get them to work.

In WMP9 they will work, but I have to play the movie for a bit, then stop it, then start it again. But if I try this with TCMP, it just won't start the movie again.

            Okay, thanks for the help.

TCMP should have a new RC5 out the door here pretty soon. If that doesn't work, I'm ditching it for something else. I do have Zoomplayer, but I didn't like it for a reason I forgot long ago.
