very pixelized playback. normal or problem?

i have a new computer, with an LCD screen.
i installed divx 5.1, and played an svcd.
the playback was VERY pixelized (i.e i could see the digital "compression" in the form of pixels in the movie)
i tried another svcd, and a vcd. they are all very pixelized at playback (on several differnet players)

    i am considering the following:
    1. install 3.11 codec, and see what happens
    2. throw away my high res. LCD and get a regular tube screen

any suggestions? ideas? why is it so bad quality playback?

divx codecs have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with svcd/vcd/dvd playback

so dont throw away your lcd too soon ^_~
