can't play xvid files or divx files

hi,

i can't seem to play divx and xvid files since i had my ati all in wonder card installed; it's just a black screen, but i hear sounds fine; i have no problem playing mpg files

it worked fine before the ati all in wonder card was installed, so i odnt know what i need to install or what the problem is

please help

thank you for responding ; um, no i havent because i didnt know what i need to reinstall; i had the store install the card for me; they installed the ati multimedia software which has the player too; i assume they installed the driver for me too; i didnt know i had to reinstall the xvid codec because i had it before the ati card was put in

oh i used the one on 05/23/03 which i thought was the latest one from the website;let me find the one with the date u suggested then

ok, i dl and installed the one on 01/2004 but still the same problem; may be it's the driver instead of the filter or codec that i need? but i dont even know what i need to upgrade to b/c it worked before the card installation

I don't know what OS your using but I put winxp pro on my 2nd hard drive to have a dual boot system. win 2k on 1st hard drive. After 4 hours of trying to get winxp to work with my ATI AIW I gave up and went back to win2k.

I have win2000 pro; so what did u have to install on your win2k pro OS after u had your ATI card? I remember it did work a few times after the card was installed, but it gave me an error message (something like deinterlacing error or something like that) before it played BUT it did play, however; I hvent installed anything new since then and now it doesnt display videos

Catalyst ver. 3.10 is what I got working. The ver. that came with my AIW pro 9000, I couldn't get to work. I d/l and installed ver. 3.1 and also d/l and installed MMC 8.8. The newest version on ati website is catalyst 4.1. I tried this ver. and couldn't get it to work with winxp pro so I didn't even try it on win2k. I think the ppl that make ATI"s sotware and or drivers must be brain dead. Never had any problem with the hardware, but the software is a nightmare to get and keep working. Keep us posted, or PM me.
