    DivX playback troubles! HELP!

It seems like I've tried everything to get DivX files to play on my Windows 98 SE machine, so I've decided to start from scratch.

I uninstalled all my mpeg-4 video decoders and freshly installed ffdshow to see if that would work.

However, when I load my .avi file into GSpot it tells me there are three compatible video codecs installed and lists ffdshow, and DivX decoder filter twice, even though I uninstalled DivX. How do I get my machine to stop trying to use the DivX codec to decode these movies?

Note: in the ffdshow config utility under codecs I have it enabled for all DivX files.

    Also, GSpot fails to render:

DirectShow was unable to render the file. Following is the error it reported:

0x80040265: VFW_E_UNSUPPORTED_STREAM - Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported.

    Thanks.
