    Xvid video plays choppy! (HELP!)

    HI,

I have a couple of Xvid files that are perfect video quality and perfect sound but the video is playing kinda coppy or lagging, like its not playing smooth as normal.

I have Xvid codec installed and also ffdshow. Also both video use the ac3 audio codec.

All my other xvid files play fine.

Here is a pic of the file information in VirtualDub.

according to the screenshot you're missing the ac3 filter (unknown tag 2000)

maybe installing this ac3 filter might help - give it a try: http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/

Just to help to figure out the solution to this problem, here is a pic of a Xvid video with the ac3 codec but this one works smoothly.

Also, when i play a file with ac3 codec, the ac3 codec properties window doesn't seem to get the info iof the file in it and also the Levels and CPU Usage bars don't work. But the audio works fine with all my ac3 videos.

I think it has something to do with the ffdshow codec

              Any suggestions??

your pc might be to slow, the player/settings might be to blame

                  Choppy xvid

Hardeep, I may not be able to help much but I do wonder if I'm having the same problem as you. Am I correct in saying that the problem is a slight but regular issue, just enough to be annoying throughout the film? I think the key to the problem lies in fps frame rate. Under Zoom Player I found that there is a discrepancy between the listed rate (say 23.976) and the actual playback rate (in my case varies between 16 and 20). This difference does not exist in xvid avis that don't have this slight jerky feel to them. Although I think this points to the source of the problem, I'm not sure as to how to correct it. I wonder if it is a poor encode in the relatively budding xvid industry or a weakness in our respective systems. I doubt it's the latter since we'd probably see a more pronounced and irregular pattern in the choppiness. Any clues anyone?

Guys, it cannot be my camputer. It is a "super" computer.

                    P4 2.4 GHz w/ 800 MHz Bus
                    PC3200 512 MB DDR RAM
NVidia GeForce Ti4200 128 MB video card
                    Sound Blaster 5.1 sound card

It certainly be my computer nor the setting of the player. I think Sadie is right, it might just be the framerate of the video.

If you find more information on my problem, please tell me.

since you didnt state your system specs it was just a guess

we can neither mind-read nor solve problems with crappy downloads

Don't Worry guys, i got it fixed. It was the ffdshow decoder. That was the problem. I got the XviD-1.0-RC3 codec, the new one. It is really crazy.

                          xvid choppiness followup

Hardeep, I too forced ffdshow to use the xvid rc3 version filter and it took care of my problems. As you probably noticed the list and actual frame rates are now practically identical. As a final point, if you like the ffdshow filter (as I do) you can install the latest build as of Mar 2004 and it will give the similar results without having to delegate the task to the outside koepi xvid decoder. Either way it's a relief. Good luck

How did u make the fddshow filter use the new Xvid codec. I never knew you could do that. I just have both installed and my movies work.

One other thing, does anyone know if there is a problem by installing multiple codec, like the ffdshow codec and the Xvid codec are both installed. Which is better? Does it matter if i have multiple codec of the same kind installed. Like i have two Xvid codecs installed.
