Aspect Ratio
Thanks again for your response. I called Ahead Software, makers of Nero, yesterday and we discussed the situation. First, they are going to look into why the software doesn't properly resize an mp2 to 4:3 ratio and get back to me. Second, they advised that they have contracted with several standalone DVD makers to bring out new players capable of playing mp4s early next year.
What Recode does with an mp4 conversion, as opposed to an mp2, is that it allows you to actually crop the black bars above and below, thus eliminating any watermarks, etc. Then you can resize the remaining display to fit 4:3 and resulting product is amazingly proportional. If you simply convert to mp2, the entire video display (including the black bars) is resized to 4:3, thus reducing the size of the bars but not eliminating them entirely as in the former.
I will check out the VitualDub software when I get a chance. Thanks again.
