DiVX AC3 Playback Problem

I have created a divx movie with AC3 sound using DVD2AVI and VirtualDub_AC3

I demuxed all the tracks, and converted the video using the DiVX 4.12 codec. I then joined them in VDub using direct stream copy.

I regestered the AC3 Audio Filters using the regester win98 file. (I am running WinME)

When I playback in PowerDivX I get audio, but only 2 channels. The sound is playing through the SPDIF on my Sound Blaster Live Gold card (One of the original SB Lives)

It will play the sound when I have it set to Default Device, and 6 Speaker Mode, but only with 2 channels output.

It will work on every other setting combination, except SPDIF output. What do I have to do to get it to work, and have the Receiver decode the 5.1?

When I play it in Windows Media Player I don't get any sound at all.

I don't have any software DVD players. I do have an ATI ALL-In-Wonder Radeon installed, but not the DVD player program.

This is getting really frustraing I am hoping someone can help!

well i dont know if your player offers, what you're looking for

i prefer powerdvd3 (4 doesnt play some original dvd and thus sucks as it is a step backwards)

Then despite what you think, you haven't properly registered the audio filter with Windows.

2) Is it possible that you've somehow downmixed the audio to stereo? If you have WinDVD available to you, or any other software player that allows you to select "Properties" while running a video, play your video and check the audio properties.

It is possible the filters aren't properly regestered. I have tried it 3 different times.

My batch files states the following:

The batch runs w/o errors, and the 3 files are in the folder I am running the batch from.

Is that all I need to do to regester the filters or is there more?

I am fairly sure I have the filters in right, but maybe not.

Can someone explain why when I play the *.ac3 file directly into POWERDVD I get 5.1 sound, but after I direct stream copy both the .ac3 and the video in NanDub the players play it in stereo (I am getting sound in all of them now) But I am still not getting any sound when I play in PowerDiVX and set it to SPDIF.

This is driving me NUTS!

If someone could possibly email me a small divx file with 5.1 sound so I can try it and just make sure I'm not having an encoding problem, or if I could somehow send the file I made and have someone with a working setup test it I woud appreciate it.

I have a cable modem, so we could also do a file transfer somehow.

Have you now switched from an AC3-modified VirtualDub (your original post) to NanDub (your most recent post)?

Can PowerDVD play .AVI files (I'm personally only familiar with WinDVD - and v3.xxx CAN play .AVIs)? If so, is PowerDVD outputting the .AVI's audio as stereo or 5.1? If, in fact, PowerDVD plays back the .AVI with 5.1 audio, the stereo-only situation is probably a limitation of the other player software, rather than a problem with the file.

If PowerDVD cannot play .AVI files, you might want to try WinDVD.

By the way, is your Windows directory actually named "windows.000", or "Windows"?

I have tried both NanDub and Virtual Dub AC3.

PowerDVD does play AVIs

It plays the video and the audio

In the display for PowerDVD it says stereo, on the original DVD, the VOB file, and the *.ac3 file when I play them in PowerDVD it says SPDIF and has the little dolby symbol.

This is what leads me to believe my file isn't right, but I can't figure out what I could possibly be doing wrong. I am just direct stream copying the .AC3 file.

My curiosity just got the better of me and I took a minute to check something out - and got a big surprise!

I played an AC3/AVI in Windows Media Player, which recognized the audio as 5.1 (as did, also, the Sasami player). I then played it using WinDVD - which was only willing to play it as stereo.

This leads me to the conclusion that your file is A-OK - and you've just got to find a way to successfully register the filters with Windows. I would ask you again, since everything else in the batch file looks fine (assuming you're correct in using the win98.bat rather than the win2000.cmd), is your Windows directory actually named "windows.000", or "Windows"?

It is named as windows.000, I had to make the change to the batch so it would find the correct directory.

Any other ideas?

Try running the registerfilters-2k.CMD file, which I believe is intended to be an alternative (I'm a Win98 user, so I'm not that familair with ME/2000), to register the filters, instead of the Win98.bat. If you don't have it, this is it:

Those appear to be the exact same commands.

The only difference is the file type, which isn't recognized by ME, it is recognized on my XP machine, but not my ME machine.

I have a feeling the filters are working, does anyone have a short clip I can try that has the audio right?

I seem to be having the same problem you are.

I have a 4.1 speaker setup using a sblive. Using powerdvd 4.0 I only get stereo sound comming from the divx even though I set it to 4.1 speakers. Using the iviaudio.ax and mpgaudio.ax filters I get the same thing only stereo sound, and for some reason the iviaudio.ax filter will not let me pick 4.1 or 5.1 speaker mode, only stereo and spdif, I tried like 4 diffrent versions now and no luck

A bunch of times I thought I got 4speaker output but came to the conclusion it was just my soundblaster live imaging the stereo sound to my rear speakers...anyways I just downloaded this Nimo Filter Pack off this website, I'm gonna play around with these filters and hope I get it working....If i have any sucsuss i'll post here.

well, don't know if this will help, but I also had problems registering the filters (through .bat file on my win98) untill I found out, that I have to manually copy the files into windows\system\ directory and running the .bat there...
