Alright I downloaded lord of the rings and its in AVI format and says its VCD in the title...when I open it, the timer at the bottom progresses like it's playing, but I'm getting no audio or video. Could someone please help me here?

do you have divx4 installed???
if not, do so (if i remember correctly the 2cd version is divx4)
and make sure that divx4 DOES NOT take over divx3 playback!!Comment

If the title is something like "LOTR.VCD.AVI", it may actually be in MPEG1-VideoCD format. Try changing it to "LOTR.mpg". Load it into Windows Media Player (Or just doubleclick on the filename).
