    problem playing avi files

I dont know much about divx movies so please bare with me.

I downloaded 2 movies off the internet, which were .avi format at a friends house. She has winXP and I guess it uses the windows media player from OS to play the movie and it played fine at her house. Well i burn the movies and bring it back to my house. I am running win2k and have the most up to date windows media player and everytime i open these movies it crashes windows media player. I can play other movies fine but these ones that i downloaded off the internet wont work at all.

Now i tried to reinstall windows media player and that didnt help.
I downloaded the divx4.11 and the 3.11alpha codec as well. still doesnt work. I also downloaded "playa" to try to play the movies and it still doesnt work.

    Am I missing something here?

thanks for any help you can give me.

Try getting another codec pack I think theres one called Tsunami, avi files are not all DivX, and XP comes with a whole bunch of codecs, so you'll need to get the codec required.

    Hope that all made sense
