Canot Play DivX in WindowsXP

I can't play DivX in windows XP Pro. I have the proper codec. The movies will play but CPU usage goes to 100% so the movie is all choppy. The movies played fine on windows 2k

I have a PIII i GHz.

Try lowering your filter settings (down to 0, if necessary) for the DivX codec. Otherwise, try playing the movie using other players and see if the same trend occurs.

The only option i can get into is the post-processing but even setting it to zero doesn't do anything to help the performance and i can't access the options for media player, only from The Playa. Any other ideas? My moves used to play fine in wondows 2000. I can't gat them to play properly in XP however which akes no sense because everything else seems to be functionning much much faster.

are you playing those files from cd?

if so, make sure DMA mode is ON!

I'm playing the movies off my hard drive.

Check that your system is configured for optimum performance then (ie. Mobo drivers installed, DMA set on, latest stable drivers installed, etc).

Winxp and DivX

It is probobly the new mplayer that comes with XP.
Re-associate the avi files with the old mplayer that is still in the XP distribution.

As StumdoeS stated use the 6.4 (Program Files - Windows Media Player - mplayer2.exe) WMP 8 is not the best player.

Otherwise get BSPlayer www.bsplayer.org as this little player is very resource friendly.

Also pay heed to Enchanters mension of stable drivers, as you can cause all sorts of freeze up's enabling DMA with buggy MoBo chipsets and drivers (VIA is one that springs to mind).

VIA mobo....that brings up bad memories. An Intel815 chipset easily tramples on ApolloPro chipset...

I will get flamed for this, but even the old BX440 was more reliable than any VIA I have tried (and using at mo).

I have just stuck some of ALi MagiK Mobo's in some of my systems and can say they kick something rotten

The XP's love them like they were man and wife.

I tried an nVidia jobbie, but not too pleased

I just can't help myself when it comes to new gadgets and goodies

I have a network at home for games etc and like to keep it upto scratch (when ever poss).

As to your yearly upgrade I've got a nice old Soyo BX440 (with UDMA-66 too ) MoBo if you want it for your yearly upgrade

No thanks. My SiS645 (With UDMA-100) chipset is still doing fine.
