    DivX 3 Low-Motion required?

Hi, i have installed ffdshow newest version for playing back all media files, however certain files does have some tiny tiny annoying horizontal lines when picture moves, I ran gspot on them and they say DivX 3 Low-Motion not installed.
I thought ffdshow installed them all? At least it says so during installing... I would rather NOT install that old codec, it probably messes up my new sharp xvid files...
    what else to do? thx.

I'd say that is a fault within the video files themselves. Installing the DivX3 codec most likely will not help. And also, installing the said codec will not mess up your XviD files (since the codec cannot and will not handle the newer XviD format).

    Regards.

      thanks for reply.
The same video files with the annoying horizontal lines that irritate when picture moves was not present on my old system, so it must be my new config. But you're probably right about NOT installing divx3.
However, they did play back just fine on my old system which originally had divx from divx.com installed. so it must be something about codec still?
Is it safe to install divx 5.0 then or it doesn't matter because of ffdshow codec already installed?

It's alright to install the DivX 5 codec. Disable FFDShow from handling DivX3-compressed materials (and, in the process, allowing the DivX5 decompressor to handle them), and see if the problem goes away.

        Regards.

where do you allow the divx5? you mean enabling it in the ffdshow config OR divx5 config?
thanks for you answers, appreciate the help.

If you disable FFDShow from handling DivX contents, the DivX5 decompressor will by default be used (assuming that you have not installed any other codecs that are instructed to handle said contents).

            Regards.

i have never, on the other hand, experienced failure using ffdshow to play divx3

which version do you have and what settings?

i'd still think that ffdshow ill give good results and if not the source itself is to blame
