No problem here, yet. Did you try opening your player first then opening the video? Just a thought.

If your OS is XP, simply do a "System Restore" back to a previous time to when it was working.

instead of restoring the entire system to some earlier stages, i'd rather install/re-install a late version of FFDSHOW first

hey guys i also download a few xvid (hdtv-lol) videos which when I tried to play them on my Windows Media Player all i get is this

(Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might
not support the file type or might not support the codec that
was used to compress the file.)

i think i have all the rigth codec to play this Videos with?
i have a few movies (mpeg) that play great on my media player.

so now im tried to converting them (xvid-hdtv-lol) to mpeg with TMPGEnc and xpress and everything outthere and i just can find the rigth prog.to convert them with is there a prog. outthere that can convert them to mpeg im lost??? Please any help is very appreciated thanks

You can use a program called G Spot to find out what codec you need to play a certain .avi file. Simply load the .avi file in GSpot, and it will tell you what codec is needed for playback and if you have it installed on your system. - G Spot - Click Here To Find Out What Codecs You Need

Sometimes corrupted or incomplete videos can cause Windows Explorer to freeze up or crash as it tries to load the dimensions. If that's the cause, there's a way to disable that function if you surf around or you can try to repair the video with something like AviFiXP. If the file is unfixable and you cannot delete or movie it, there's a tool for this called MoveOnBoot that will get rid of it.
