"I found the file in my temp folder, but it came up as a playlist file in mine, not wmv."

Try using a "Screen" capture program such as "My Screen Recorder" and stream the WMV in real time and use the capture program to record to an AVI file that you can play over and over as well as edit to another format.

K, will give it a try. I had used camstudio once before as my screen capture/recorder, but the resulting video was a bit funny. i looked a bit..pixelated ro something...not very smooth. A problem I usually don't have. I will try the software you suggested. If any one elese, including those who'd previously helped me, can think of any other solutions, or maybe know soemthing i managed to screw up in my attempts, i'm willing to know, for future use. Thanks!

        Hi rebbot -

hey, I had a friend try the temp internet files thing, and he had the same result i did. I copied and pasted exactly what you siad to do, and he followed it thru. Could it be a regional thing....some countries get the playlist files, while others get the wmv, or computer settings, firewall issues,or something else like that maybe? I want to be able to retrieve these files in the future, and prefer only having to do screen captures (screen recordings) when all other hope is lost.

        peace...

It could be an IE setting.
I tried it repeatedly, and got the .wmv every time.
Try emptying the temp internet, as well as "offline" files.
          Then view it again.
Remember to CLOSE all browser windows, just before the end of the clip.
If the clip ends, the end code of the video dumps the file out of your cache, and you end up with the playlist file.

One other thing you may consider doing in the future - if you are going to be consistently wanting to capture bits of "Newscasts" or any material off the airwaves, is to purchase a "PVR" internal card such as the "WinTV 2000" by Hauppauge. This way you can time your recordings and have them in "High Quality" mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 format and be able to edit them or convert the video format till your heart's content.

I would recommend, if you're going to get into capturing live TV, that you get a hardware Hauppauge card, not a "soft" one.
The PVR-150 is a great starter card, and does all the encoding in hardware, so there's no load on your CPU.

I have to ask...can it capture streaming stuff like these files i'm trying so hard to get also? oh, and to be able to use it, do I need to plug my comp into the cable doohicky for my tv? if so, how does one go about this? Is there a wireless way to do it? I'm learning quite alot thanks to you guys!

It will capture anything off "Analog" airwaves (Network TV, cable TV etc.) in real time.
