    1) Is "WinAVI Video Converter" freeware?

    2) Are you the author?

Hi, I used winavi for a while. I have to say I was not very impressed with this program. Firstly, the quality of the output files were not great. They pixalated quite a lot when played. Secondly, I found that on more than one occasion the output files were too large to fit on a disc, so they had to be shrank. In the end I lowered the size to 4300 mb, which kinda fixed the problem. And thirdly, on more than a few occasions the audio and video streams were totally out of sync. I ended up ditching this program in frustration. I did however come across a much better program, which is free. It is vso divxtodvd. So far I have had no problems with this program. It is also very fast at doing the job. I have a pentium 4 1.6 ghz and it takes about the same lenght of time as the movie to convert it.

But I've only used it for DivX & Xvid's

I'm not sure of all the codec's I have. I install them as I need them, though since I installed the divx codec I haven't had to install anymore, yet. A friend of mine, who has a faster pc than mine also could not get winavi to work, at all. On every attempt the audio & video were out of sync. He too uses vso with no problems.

columbo i agree with you 100%. The only app which works also quite fine and brings acceptable quality is in my opinion vso avi2dvd. Its fast and easy and quality is okay for its speed. Good if you are going to convert big sessions.

PURE crap. the only good thing about, i think, is that it basicly is "one click"

conversion, but it has no editing features and produces poor results.

Dunno how you are getting bad results I use it all the time with g8 results
But I only use it for AVI's to DVD and they come out as good if not better then the Divx xviD file
The only thing I can think of been the differnces is a codec I have and you don't ?

when you start Encoding do you get a Green Arrow down nere your clock ??
