    audio out of sync

I know there are hundreds of these threads but none seem to solve my particular problem.

Audio quickly goes out of sync when playing DivX/XviD movies with MP3 VBR encoded audio.

I know it is not an encoding problem the files are fine it is definetly a playback problem codec (or lack of) related.

I am using media player (sorry) and have recently re-formatted my computer and only have morgan streamswitcher, AC3 codec and ffdshow installed + whatever defaults there are + media players auto d/l's. (media player says codec being used for audio is 'Default WaveOut Device')

Movies in AC3 play back with no problems but any files encoded in MP3 VBR are playing out of sync, if i fast forward rewind etc. they go back into sync but rapidly fall out again.

Any suggestions as to solving the problem? if there an audio codec/filter I need to install?

    thanks in advance

go into ffdshow codec configuration, and make it decode mp3

    o through start-->program files-->ffdshow-->audio configuration

in the 'decoder' column, set it to 'mp3lib' for mp3

i also recommend you use 'media player classic' to play all files http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...ckage_id=84358

hmmm really need to update my bookmarks, site i was looking at said the most uptodate version of ffdshow 20030523 would you believe ( well i figured mebe they had stopped updating it)

Installed the new one and it seems to play fine now so thanks very much.

another stupid question, running version 6.4.09.1130 of media player, is that the same as media player classic? it looks like it, but the version numbers differ slightly from the link you posted, which version is best?

oh and is there a guide anywhere to how to set up ffdshow for max image quality?

i'm not sure which media player you're running if its at 6.4.09.1130, but get the latest (just released yesterday) here: http://forums.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56839

wow your ffdshow is old!!! they have made HUGE improvements since 2003, you should be ashamed of yourself

as for highest quality settings, it all comes down to opinion. see mine here http://forums.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56808

Thats the problem when you do something stupid that kills your hard drive, you do a fresh install and it takes ages to figure out just what you had installed over the last few years that got everything to work, and my back-up bookmarks list and back up files and codecs are all 2 years out of date.

            thanks for your help

I give up for today its 02:30
