Converting AVI to TS

I desperately need ur help. I've been trying to convert my AVI files to TS files so I can put them on my HDTV since a couple of days now and still haven't found any program which supports this convertion. Does anybody have an idea on how to do this? I'm grateful for any answer I get.

converting to ts files will not do you any good for standalone playback, just convert to dvd. see here http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=56454

I already tried to convert one of the files to a MPEG2 format, but the file does not get displayed as uploadable file when I connect my laptop with the recorder.

you dont have a dvdburner?

I do have a DVD Burner which is no use because I don't have a DVD Player, except the one on my laptop. I do have a HDTV with a 160 GB harddisk where I can put movies on, but in order to transfer them I have to put them to *.ts format...
