    Unknown Codec 'MFRF'

    Hello to all!

    Hope I'm right here <!--emo&--><!--endemo-->

    Some years I've registered a video (avi) with an old Webcam.
    Years later I've found this video again, but cannot open it anymore.
    I haven't the webcam and canno really remember the model (it was not mine).
    I've searched everywhere but cannot find a codec to open this avi.
    I can only listen the file, but no video is shown.
    Tested afreeCodecVT and unknown Codec...
    Can someone help me?

    The VirtualDub (1.5.0) error trying to open the file:

    Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'MFRF' (unknown)

    Virtualdub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

    Can someone help me to find a codec or a program that can solve this?

    Thank's! <!--emo&--><!--endemo-->

    its likely the reason you could play it before was because you had the webcam's software installed, which would've installed the necessary (however very uncommon) codec.

    even a google search failed, so i'd say your chances are slim, unless you can come up with at least the brand of the camera.

      Could be a regular codec like M-JPEG, but with a custom fourCC.

            ffdshow doesn't handle that fourCC. Like I said though, could be a more common codec with a renamed fourCC. i.e. DivX 3.11alpha is still MS MPEG-4 V3 despite the fact that it uses the fourCC DIV3 and not mp43.

              Tried...

              Hi!

              I've installed FFDSHOW, but nothing to do.
              I've also tryed to analyze the file with GSpot codec and here the output:

              Video
              Codec
              FCC: MFRF
              Name: unknown
              Runtime: 00:02:19 (2,090fr)
              x:y: 320x240 (1.33:1) [=4:3]
              Bitrate 1931 kb/s
              FPS: 14.99
              Qf 1.677 bits/pixel

              Audio Stream -No Codec Required-
              I can listen the content, but no video to see :'(

              Someone has googled around a bit and VintaSoft WebCam (which is actually a program) was the only stuff that came up. As already said, I cannot remember the Webcam and the Software too. I don't know if the codec comes with the drivers of the webcam or with this software. I tried to email this company, no answer... :'(

              The search must goes on
