yuden is the mediacode, whereas Taiyo Yuden is the brand

Sorry, from this image I'm not able to say if it's a genuine taiyo.

Take a look on internal part of the disc (near the central hole). If there is a code starting with GG or GD, should be a genuine Taiyo.

It seems an authentic taiyo. In my Plextor made in Japan there is the number TG001112.

All made in Japan media are good, and most of them are Taiyo. SOme Taiyo are branded Verbatim Pastel disc and also Sony media made in Japan are genuine Taiyo

Being that I'm at work I can't see the disc right now I can't determine if they are fake or not but they are Sony's and they say made in Japan.

As I said Sony made in Japan are authentic Taiyo.

Another thing that can interfere with playback is a dirty lens. If your standalones are rather old, this can be your problem.

There are some kits to do this work. Usually these are made by a disc with brushes that you can insert on the player and spinning the brushes clean lens.

So I swapted out DVD burners last night and in doing so I decided to just swap out my CD-Rom drive for the Sony DRU-710a. I made the Sony the Master and left my samsung DVDrw in as a slave. Do you see any potential problems with having two DVDrw drives in the same PC? I know it sounds like a bumb question and everything seemed to work ok (it got late and I only burned one disc with the sony). Will I de able to burn with both DVD rw with this type of stepup? Thanks

Right now I have four burners in my computer, so don't worry: no problems

If you want to burn with two burners at the same time, however, the best way is to use two identical burners connected to different IDE channels to avoid slowings. With two different burners usually max speed obtained is of the slowest burner. But your burners are on the same IDE channel, so burn with these two drives at the same time is not a good idea.
