    Maybe use a green screen and use something to take the green out.

          "picture in picture" should be able to do this job and this feature can be found in many editing tools

                  I suggest Ulead, more powerful than Pinnacle.

                    could you please state a couple of those differences that make ulead the better choice?

                    and please be so kind as to name the version numbers which you will compare here

                      I compared VS9 to Pinnacle Studio 9. Now, I have an OEM version of Pinnacle, but it has almost no editing tools. Ulead has the option to add audio, titles, overlays, cut and paste clips, reverse clips, speed up and slow down clips, etc. All I found in Pinncale was add/remove clips from the project. Maybe I am not doing it right, but as I have seen it, Ulead has more tools.

                        if you ask me pinnacle is a very powerful software

                        i cant follow you with the *adding audio/titles* problem

                        the reverse funcion is not available in version 9 only in the liquid edition but you can give this plugin a try:

                        go for "REVERSE"

                          I decided to take some pics to compare the two.

                          First off, UVS has 3 different modes, whereas Pinnacle only has the Editor:

                          As for the editing part itself, look at those options, you can raise and lower the volume, reverse the clip (you covered that part), mute it, or even rotate the clip:

                          It also has lots of different effects you can use in transition from one video to another (not sure if Pinnacle has this):

                          It does overlays, of both images and video (Pinnacle probably does this, just dunno how):

                          This is what I mean by a title, putting text on top of a video (good for presentations and stuff):

                          And, it has these audio options, like auto-rip from a CD, put an MP3 as background music, etc:

                          And IMO the best part, it opens and saves as MOV and WMV too, whereas Pinnacle only works on AVI and MPEG files. UVS also SAVES AS RM but does not edit them.

                          Now for Pinnacle:
                          Nice transitions, just like Ulead:

                          Now, I gotta admit, it has nice titles. That it does better than Ulead:

                          It has built-in SFX, nothing that can't be found via music search engines:

                          And it has menus for DVDs:

                          But, it lacks all the other editing capabilities that Ulead has, such as the volume levelling, the auto CD ripping, rotate/reverse video. Still dunno how to do overlays. Maybe it is because I have QuickStart and not the full one?

                          I just think, if you were to go out and buy one, I would go with Ulead. Luckily I have both (Ulead was an Xmas gift and Pinnacle came free with my capture card (which I might sell though))

                          Am I missing anything?

                            Use a tripod, film yourself twice, then it is a simple matter of cutting and joining the two sets of frames. Pretty much anything should be able to do that.

                            In AVISynth it would just be:
                            left = Crop(video1, 0, 0, -352, 0)
                            right = Crop(video2, 352, 0, 0, 0)
                            stackhorizontal(left,right)

                            That would give you a 50% split. You can then take the results into another editor if you like.

                              You could do that, and use Ulead (get a free trial) to use the Overlay mode. However, I did not know if you meant superimposing yourself, or making it look like 2 seperate videos (see my screenshot for Overlay mode).
