DivX Video doesn't playback - Help!

    Hi there,

maybe this is the wrong subforum for my thread, but I felt I have to leave nothing undone to solve my problem. (Could't find any older thread on the issue by trying the 'Search' function either).

Yesterday I downloaded an animated 3D short movie called "Blue: A Short Film" (legally! at: http://www.legaltorrents.com/index.htm and also to be found at http://www.xenobi.com/blue/release.html). I even did so many more times, because at first I suspected a malfunction caused by incomplete downloading. Unfortunately I had to find out that the following "playback error" did "show up" repeatedly.

Actually the video didn't "show up" at all, but disappeared all of a sudden (the playback window made a short appearance, found the right display dimensions determined by the video resolution and then disappeared unexpectedly).

At first I dragged the video into the program display of AVIcodec
1.2 b110 (http://avicodec.duby.info/) to see, whether it would be recognized by the prog, which codec it detects and so on... The result:

    • File: 238 MB (238 MB), duration: 0:23:33, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 49 %
    • Video: 178 MB, 1062 Kbps, 24.0 fps, 324*216 (4:3), DX50 = DivXNetworks Divx v5, Supported
    • Audio: 59 MB, 354 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 0x2 = Microsoft ADPCM, Supported
Everything looked fine according to these information, but that couldn't help me any further. That's why I tried the program VideoInspector v1.7.89 (http://www.kcsoftwares.com/). It's result stated this:

    File Name: blue-a-short-film-divx.avi
    File Size: 239 Mb.

    [Movie]
    Valid: Yes [AVI]
    Duration: 00:23:33
    Movie complete : No

    Resolution: 324x216
    Codec: 3ivx
    FPS: 24,00
    BitRate: 1061 Kbps
    Quality Factor: 0,65 b/px

    [Audio]
    Codec: Microsoft ADPCM
    Number of channels: 2
    Sample Rate: 44100 Hz
    BitRate: 355 Kbps
(By the way: why does this program detect a different codec?)

Guided on track by this info (Movie complete : No), I got myself a program called DivXRepair 1.1 (http://divxrepair.sourceforge.net/ ) which could't detect any errors.

The last measure that came into my mind was to re- or transcode the video. But neither the program DIVX Converter, nor Dr. DivX or TMPGEnc v2.59.47.155 Plus could finish the job. All the nessessary video and audio codecs are installed on my system (Win 2000 Pro) and I've never experienced a problem like this before.

Is there any another program that could be of help (repair) or give further information about the real problem at hand? Or maybe you guys have a solution or tip on how to solve this problem.

    Thanks in advance!

      Problem Solved

      Hi again,

it appears, the sticky thread No sound or no video? Read this first! by
UncasMS has helped to solve the problem. I have installed FFDSHOW and marked everything apart from wmv as suggested. The video plays back fine now.

Btw: The NANDUB link holds download links that seem to be outdated. I suggest a different link. Maybe this one could be a substitute: http://www.divx.com.hk/software/

Thanks for your help, also to you futurex!
