My Divx problems and some other random problems *Please Help*

ok so, I had Dvix player for a long time. I really liked it. then I downloaded Divx 6 and installed it and then when I try to open it to run it, it just stays in that frist screen, that really small one that says Divx 6 with the little dots flashing on the bottom.. the player will not open it just freezes right there. I tried re downloading it, and uninstalled and reinstalled it and it never works. and It makes me angry

my other problem is with my .Avi files... I cannot play them anymore. I have all of these Anime episodes on my computer and I used to be able to watch them all no problem I always used windows media player, but now, all of a sudden I cant play them. but what is wierd is I can play some of them but not all of them. when I try to open them i get that windows error report thing that comes up asking if I want to send an error report and then if I click no or send then the player closes down. I had no problems playing these avi files before so I am pretty sure I have all the right codecs but I just do not understand why I cannot play these files any more... any thoughts?

well if anyone does answer this thank you very much

EDIT:: by the way, if this has been asked before I am sorry. but I am desperate. I really want to get these problems solved

pls use FFDSHOW as your playback filter (no need for divx!) and try MPC (media player classic / not to be confused with microsoft's media player!) as a very good freeware software player

acutally, I tried Media Player Classic and it froze up also.

but I will try out FFDSHOW and see how that works. Thanks

        several solutions

        1. do a 'system restore'

        2. as uncas said, download & install ffdshow

        3. just use VLC for playback
