extract audio with YAMB, mux to avi with avi-mux GUI. avi container supports AAC just fine
Much mahalo anonymez. I had done it that way and AVIMux-GUI came up with an error. With your confirmation, I did again and this time, AVIMux-GUI muxed them beautifully together without problem. Probably, i did miss or overlook something.

Like you, I just try to test and learn the differences but never intend to convert .mp4 to .avi though

      anonymez,
i did what you say with yamb & got the video in .avi,

but like everyone else i got no audio.

i'll try what was stated earlier here to get the audio to work with the video.

is there any other way else beside was stated earlier to get video & audio?

You have to select the track ID 1 first and do the extracton (either audio or video). Then change the ID number from 1 to 2 and press extract again. You'll have 2 files: audio and video

          hi,

i'll give it a try, i assume i need to mux these to files together to get a single .avi file with video & audioi?

              hi,
              i am confused.

i did what benbryant say by using ymab to extract track 1, by click the 'extract' tab, open the mp4 file. click 'extract visual track ID to an avi file' (make sure the track id # is set for video) and click extract.

                hi,
                i am confused.

i did what anonymez say by using ymab to extract track 1, by click the 'extract' tab, open the mp4 file. click 'extract visual track ID to an avi file' (make sure the track id # is set for video) and click extract.

in my case track 1 is video.

this gave me the .avi video file that play with no sound.

i then did what benbryant say by going to extract raw file track 2, this give me the .acc audio file.

i then went to yamb to mux the .avi video with .acc audio, this gave me back .mpeg4 video that play with sound.

but i am back to where i started .mpeg4 not .avi file with audio & video.

i also down loaded virual dub but how do i use it?

i am a newbie on all these matters.

help please, i really like to learn all this even though media coder has given me the solution that i originally wanted.

i like to learn these other techniques.

extract audio same way you did the video, just change the track id # to match. then mux to avi with avi-muxGUI

                    hi,
if i click 'extract visual track ID to an avi file' & put track 2 for my audio it fail saying bit stream not compliant

but with track 1 i get my video with no sound.

the only way is to extract via raw to get the .acc audio

also mux to avi with avi-muxGUI.

is the avi-muxGUI the mux part of yamb?

or is this another program i need to get?

Please download Avi-Mux Gui from the link below:

Just drag and drop the audio and video files to the program. The audio file will be accepted automatically. On the top part click the video file and click the "generate data source from file", and then press the "start" button to process

                        hi benbryant,

i did what you say & i got the same .avi video without sound.

so for some reason i am not extracting the audio correctly because my window does not reconize it so i use quickplayer to open & it still doen't work.

but i am stuck with the quick player logo for the file so it looks like a .acc but i don't know what it is.

if i can correctly extract the audio, i suspect that the avi-muxGUI would had worked.

Here is what I did from the beginning to the end:

1- Open .mp4 file with Yamb, select "Select Tract ID (1) in raw format", and press Extract. Next, select "Select Tract ID (2) in raw format" and press Extract again. These 2 steps will make 2 new files: video with .h264 extension for video and .aac extension for audio. Now I use AVC2AVI to mux the raw .h264 video to .avi. AVC2AVI only accepts files with .264 extension, not .h264. Therefore, to make it work, I rename the file name by deleting the letter "h" from .h246 into .246, open it in AVC2AVI, and make the .avi file with 29.97 fps for NTSC or 25 fps for PAL. After that, I run AVI-Mux GUI to combine this new file with the .aac audio file into a single .avi file.

Some of those steps above I learnt from anonymez and from researching. But renaming the file from .h264 to .264 to open it with AVC2AVI is my own experiment to make it work. I probably make extra unnecessary steps to make it work or there might be a better method to do that. Please try and let us know how it turns out.

PS: You can download AVC2AVI itself or download MeGUI which includes AVC2AVI

                            hi benbryant & anonymez,

i tried the raw extraction of track 1 video & track 2 audio in yamb but the track 1 video is a .cmp file not .h264 file, so something is definitlly wrong.

the raw track 2 audio is the same screw up as stated in my previous note.

anyway since media coder work for me , so i will stick with that solution.

i really like to sincerly thank both of you for your help & pointing me to media coder which is great.

                            again thank you!!!!!
