Try to find the following file:C:\Windows\$NtUninstallwmp11$\spuninst\spunin st.exe.
This is a hidden file;so,first you have to unhide it from Windows explorer.
If you find the exe file, run it.sigpic

I did some more poking around and it seems that laptops with vista are not working well at all with wmp11. Finding all kinds of discussions on your exact problem with no apparent solutions at this time. (Have to wait on the big M for that!)
Seems a possible restore might help, also possible conflicts with other programs.
Try some google, you will find all kind of info, a few odd suggestions that you may or may not want to attempt.
Let me know if you have any luck!
