Audio delay problems

Hi all, I'm kinda new to this so be a bit patient with me

This is my problem, I'm experiencing audio delay between audio and picture. I'm paying movies right off my PC (dvi->HDMI) so I'm using my TV screen as a "monitor" The thing is that the sound is out of sync with the movies not much mu enough to screw with my head lol, anybody got any advice before i turn mad

Is there a program I can use to fix this problem?

PS:I have a little suspicion that it might be the cable thats causing the problem but I'm not sure (5M long) And the program I'm using is VLC media player.

what are the files you are playing? avi's mkv's h264's and they all do it?

what's your video card? computer specs?

Hi, The file that lagg now are avi files but it has happened on other files as well, such as bin files. My computer specs are

Pentium 4 - 2,gHz
Nvidia Gforce 7800gtx
512 Ram
2x 150gb SCSI disks

I had some similar issues and thought it was the file, but after a reboot and testing with other software players the sync problem disappeared

First of all, the FFDSHOW consumes way less CPU power than original DivX codecs, even with maximum post-processing. At the same time the post-processing seems to give excellent quality results and allows more configuring than the original DivX 5 codec. It can even automaticly reduce post-processing if your CPU is getting overloaded.

True i also have a delay on the monitor, but after i installed the new codec its much smaller. Haven't rebooted the PC for awhile some I'm gonna do that as well. Might there be a delay because of the cable?, I forgot to mention that the mouse cursor is also lagging like crazy on the plasma TV. Could that be the refresh rate on the TV?

the digital signal travels at the speed of light, I could see a small problem with a circuit
handling the sound stream

the long cable might affect the quality of the signal but not the sync

the mouse cursor is probably your best clue that your computer is being pushed too hard

if you are running windows xp try the power user tweaks

hmm ok, as i atm only have 512 ram would a upgrade to say 1024 cure this problem? or is it that my cpu is to "weak"?

do a three finger salute and compare my screen playing a similar avi to yours

my cpu(amd64) is only at 22%

my available ram is still 257 megs

my video card is slightly lamer than yours

well my CPU is at aprox 15% but I'm using twice as much ram as you are I'm at 648 after closing msn and some other small programs. So i guess a little PC maintenance would be in order.

look under processes for anything using a lot of ram and cpu%

at idle you should have 98-99% System idle process

well this it how it look after a bit of maintenance and a reboot, still got the laggy mouse cursor and that miliisec of sync prob, just enough so you notice it. Btw that first peak was the scary part of the movie lol

post a screenshot of processes if anything is using much memory? at idle?

memory or the cpu might not be the issue
