Newbie question on HD cam purchase to make playable discs on DVD player

I'm looking to purchase a camcorder for my kids (ages 7 & 9) to shoot video with that they can then watch on our DVD player.

I'm ignorant of what needs to be done to the video file to watch it on a DVD player. Is it dependent on what camcorder I purchase?

I'm hoping to spend less than $200 for the camcorder and am currently thinking of the Flip UltraHD.

Will this camcorder work? Is there a different camcorder that would be more suitable for what I want? What other software will be necessary to play the videos on a DVD player?

If there's a FAQ on this topic, just point me in the right direction.

    Thanks.

PS. I expect my kids will also be using the camera for still photos, if this matters to camera choice.

you will have to convert/output the HD cam material (which should be AVCHD) to DVD

this process is possible BUT it'll take quite some time even on quadcore pcs

since shooting the material is only one step you will have to make sure that a decent software like corel/ulead video studio or pinnacle comes with it, which i doubt in this price range

without editing software you wont get very far

I don't want to burn DVDs. Rather VCDs. Are the issues the same?
