Indonesian embassy in Australia closed

CANBERRA, JUN 1: The Indonesian embassy in Canberra was closed today after a suspicious package was sent to the compound in a security scare Austarlia’s Foreign Minister blamed on public anger over last week’s conviction of an Australian woman on drug smuggling charges.

The embassy has received threats and requested additional security ahead of the conviction of 27 year old Schapelle Corby who was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment last Friday for smuggling 4.1 kg of Cannabis into Bali airport in October last year.



‘‘Today, I’m aware that the Australian Federal Police and the fire brigade are investigating a possible suspicious package that was received this morning by the Indonesian embassy, ‘‘Foreign Minister Alexander Downer told the Parliament.

‘‘We condemn this sort of abuse and urge people concerned about Schapelle Corby to ensure they put their energy into supporting (her) legal defence team,’’ Downer said.

Screw these people. Her conviction is political. Hold up a beautiful western women to show "muslim" power. The Blake and O.J. convictions are apples to oranges compared to this international travesty. She should be sent back to Australia to be sentenced there, and maybe banned from Indonesia for life. I think there is nothing wrong with imposing our western standards, How about some of our western "Islamic" standards. I know too many Islamic people who are sick with the way their religion has been perverted. Our western heritage is something to be proud of. And it worjs a whole lot better than the middle east, which was once the seat of civilization, what happened there?

toomany cats - I think what happened to her in Indonesia would have happened in any other country if she was carrying over 9 pounds of weed. And if she is sent back to Australia and they sentence here there for trying to smuggle weed into Indonesia then they should sentence her for trafficking weed in Australia and smuggling weed outta Australia. Probably get 60 years.

It is an out and out disgrace what has happened with the Indonesian embassy today. I'm sorry folks, it IS a surpirse. Is it unAustralian to do this sort of thing and the mark of a terrorist.

I believe the guilty person or persons should be tracked down and sentenced to a lengthy jail term. This is not what we are about.

And because it is not, because it is the work of one or a small bunch of people, I feel that this will blow over.

Nevertheless, it is a disgraceful, cowardly act of terrorism.
