I agree, it is un"any nationality" to do these sorta things and most do blow over unless the things get outta hand when a big crowd forms like after a Super Bowl / World Series Victory here in the states when the celebration and booze and drugs are flowing....turning over cars and stuff....man just think what woulda happened if they lost . But then again in the state where the losing team is from it's usually quite.

It gets like a bunch of dominoes, one crazy person starts it and then .................................................. .................

It's a disgrace no matter how many involved or where it happens

Thing that gets me, jm, is that sooooo many ppl here think she is innocent or she is somehow "entitled" to a shorter sentence, either because of her nationality, her gender or her "good looks".

And on the back of this, a crazy person has gone and done an act of madness, that will only hurt the girl's cause. Does anybody seriously expect the Indonesians will not now get even more defensive of their system of justice? Does anyone believe this will make them relent? Exactly the opposite!

A theory running around is the mailer could in fact be an agent provocateur, but I suspect this is wishful thinking.

Does Chappelle have any previous convictions? I used to work for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. People who got nailed with 1st offense cases usually got off a lot lighter. We did not want them in the system because it was more like babysitting compared to the murderers rapists and that lot. That is who she will be with. I don't smoke weed or do any drugs but It is time to devalue drugs. The premium paid is caused by the illegality. I think it is a medical issue. If Chapelle can't be exchanged back to Australia in an exchange, I'll put her up Though it may piss off my wife.

          LOL toomanycats.

I don't reckon she's that good looking mate. And, AFAIK, she has no priors, but her dad does have a minor record (for what, I don't know - I just remember hearing it on the TV)

blutach They probably all think she is innocent beacuse of her being as is said a "homie" (from there) or as my Mom usta say ever time the neighbors told her I was doing something I should not have been doing, "Not my son",but then I always got caught by here eventually. She was better than Columbo, and she didn't smoke cigars

the whole point here isn't whether she is guilty, (in fact i hope she is, very brave) it's her punishment is inhumane.

I'm not sure about this but I think there are mandatory sentences in the US based on the quantity of drugs you are caught with whether it is your first offense or not. Now I agree a first time offender caught with a small quantity shouldn't be in prison, but 4.1 Kg, over 9 pounds...I don't think so.

Inhumane... the guy that got 20 years for stealing a carton of cigarettes because it was his third strike ( his first 2 were also petty crimes, that ain't inhumane thats insane

A lot of the rapist and murderers try to use being high or drunk as an excuse for the crimes they committed. How many crimes are committed to support drug habits? Drug dealers are as bad as or even worse than a rapist or murderer, ruining countless lives and family structures and causeing sane people to become rapists and murderers. But like in the prohibition days as long as there is a demand there will be a supply. Shame.

yep, yep, i pretty much agree. another thing i don't buy into is the whole insanity defense. it is so abused and really should be disallowed.

I'll just say one more thing.....if a person is gonna travel and get travel brochures and recommendations for 4 star places and the best plane fare etc. . If they are going to bring drugs with them they better check out the drug laws of the place to where they are going....Once again "If ya wanna play, ya gotta pay" rings true all the time. Looks like Chapelle wanted to play, so now she has to pay. The "Game" has no mercy.

Fill the jails with criminals who hurt other people. The cities are full of suburbanites who buy their drugs in the inner-city and then drive off. If they get caught their sentences are always lighter. That is a fact. The jails are filled with lower income and minorities (lower income makes anyone a "minority") and these people do not have the wherewithall to afford the attorneys to get them out of their mess. Too many people who do drugs and only hurt themselves (not to mention the emotional strain on families) are busted and doing hard time with real criminals. Drugs are never to be accepted as an excuse for violent crime. Violent people are violent drugs or not.I lived in New Jersey for way to long and worked in Philadelphia. , with the FCI. Most of the people in jail were black. A disporportionate amount of them. The figures are obvious. Research it for yourself. With the jails full of drug users there is no room for pedophiles, sex offenders, and the real scum. Look what's happened in Fla. .

                          If you're carrying 9 pounds of marijuana, you're not simply a "drug user" - you're a dealer...

I grew up and spent almost 30 years in South Philly and have lived for the past 25+ years in South Jersey about 12 miles from Camden, NJ. Which I think right now is the Crime Capital of the US. I know what you are saying.

I don't think there are too many people in jail that got caught with a dime bag or a single vial of crack.

The lower income minorities of any color who rob from their familes/friends/strangers to support their drug habits, taking food and rent money, selling whatever ain't bolted down in the house because of their drug habits. I realize the free rehabs are full and the private ones are expensive but they made the choice. Crack is supposedly so addictive that in the begginning the dealers gave it away for free!

I know about being an addict. I am an addict to nicotine for the last 40 years. Tried everything, patch, gum, Wellbutrin, Zyban, hypnosis, cold turkey but none have lasted longer than 10 weeks (which for me was cold turkey). But I as well as the drug addicts and drunks made the choice and have to live with it until I can overcome the habit. Same as them. I am fortunate in that I never became addicted to anything but nicotine. I got caught with a joint by my Mom when I was 12. Nobody knew about it then. I rememebr my mother looking it up in the good old websters and saying "the assassin of youth" ...."smoking this...keep it up and I'll kill you" .

Ever see a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide in some people that did a 180 or such as change you didn't believe it, from when they were sober or straight to drunk or high.

Since at least the 1950s, that has been the typical modus operandi of dealers - regardless of the drug. When I was a kid, the cycle was:

"Here's a free joint. Enjoy!" Then later on, "Try these pills for free. They'll get you higher than the marijuana will!" Then, still ater, "Why don't you snort/skin pop, shoot this heroin? You'll get higher than a kite!"

Sadly, many of school chums disappeared from this Earth prematurely, because of that cold, calculated, cunning cycle. I was always amazed at how otherwise intelligent kids could actually be swayed/conned by knuckle-dragging, scumbucket drug dealers, with the cumulative intelligence of a rock...
