Chewy
I have spent the last few hours running CD-DVD Speed on all 4 burners in question.
I have created several discs and ran several scans etc. If you could look at some of these and see if you can explain to me what's going on.
Some points of interest as you look at these test results, I used VERBATIM DVD+R 16X.
- On every DVD burned with the Lite-On there was a dark smudge on the burn side at approx 75% from center
- On every DVD burned with the Sammy there was a dark section on the burn side at approx 75% from center; however on this mark you can see dark lines as well as a smudge. but smaller in diameter than the Lite On.
- There were no physical artifacts on the DVDs burned with the Pioneer or NEC....
thanks

I already have an apporved RMA for the Samsung 202G
should I send back the Sammy and LiteOn and get another Pioneer? I don't understand how I can be getting artifacts with different burners?? Really need some help.Comment

well you have been thorough, unfortunately you have wasted a lot of disks in fundamental errors, ok, let's assume those verbatims are not the best batch
1. the pioneer is not a good scanner(ever) it gives inconsistent results no matter what
2. you have found out that hardly any media can be burned well at full speed
3. slow down the burns to 8x with the pioneer, samsung and liteon
use cdspeed to burn an iso(create disk tab) have an iso ready
now scan in same computer with liteon and samsung
post one graph for each scan, make sure they are png's not jpeg
I will attach graph when it's done
LOWER SCAN SPEED TO 8X
at those speeds your power supply could be dropping the ball, not enough power for the laser?Last edited by Chewy; 1 Oct 2007, 08:02 AM.Comment

you have to go into options with cdspeed to get the burn speed to stick and maybe restart the program?
my first test it ignored the 8x I set
it looks like burner speeds have exceeded the quality of even premium media, which in my opinion seems to be hit or miss with good batches
this computer has an adequate power supplyLast edited by Chewy; 1 Oct 2007, 08:21 AM.Comment

be sure and reread all instructions, you missed a link that was in my first post in the scan thread
take your time, it's extremely advanced and complicated, at least it was for most of us when we started, and i still screwup after all this timeComment

just so im clear you want me to burna dvd with each of the 3?
also we're gonna skip the NEC (since its old and has been having problems seeing discs)Comment

Hey chewy
ok here we go
burned with sammy
scanned with sammy and LiteOn
BTW, No artifact on the burn side of the sammy, must be a speed issue!.
(probably the same with the lite-on when burning.)
regarding the previous cdspeed: the pioneer seemed to hold even when set at max.
So I guess this means I should:
1. stay at 8x for burning (whether Im using the Pioneer/ sammy/ liteOn)
2. put Pioneer & Sammy in main tower; use Pioneer for primary burning- use Sammy for scanning (seems odd doesn't it? using a burner for scanning only)
3. Put LiteOn & NEC in 2nd tower; use LO for burning and scanning and use NEC for_________? (when it sees the disc it works great!)
4. put the GDR 8162B on a shelf.
Regarding scanning:
1. is there some way to set the scanning speed for acuracy? the programs I have don't really let me set the speed. DVDD/ EAC/ dbAMP etc....
2. Does it really matter which I use for scanning/ extracting? What will happen if i use the Pioneer? Won't my software just slow down for proper extraction?
Thanks again for helping me understand this.Comment
