CSS encryption still present in final DivX AVI when scrolling through movie.

I rip DVDs into DivX using SmartRipper. After many hours of encoding, the DivX is created. I open the DivX movie in a movie player. The movie plays fine when started from the beginning, but when I want to start a movie from half-way or whatever, I scroll to where I want, it plays with what appears to be CSS encryption, you know, the scrambled blocky picture? I doublecheck everytime I rip a DVD that it finds the key without any problem, and it always does. I just can't see how the CSS can show up only when you try to scroll to a certain point in a movie and not when you start it from the beginning. Can anyone give me any suggestions?

If it helps, I use SmartRipper to rip the DVD to the hard-drive, TMPGEnc to encode the DivX, Azid to encode the AC3 audio into WAV, CoolEdit 2000 to encode the WAV to MP3, and finally VirtualDub to join the A/V together.

Also, I have attached a picture to show the problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Which players have you tried? If you've only used one, try several others in order to determine whether the problemis with the player rather than the video...

Oh yeah, sorry, I forgot to mention that I have tryed the DivX movies in various players (i.e. WMP 6 & 7, The Playa, Twins Media Player). The problem is still present even in VirtualDub when scrolling through the movie. I think I can certainly say that the AVI is the problem, not the players.

      Thanks for the suggestion anyways.

Try re-ripping and converting using entirely different tools:

Rip the DVD usind Clad (I still prefer the older v.1.71)

Convert using Flask (I still prefer using v.0.594PX3) - set audio to Uncompressed 48,000 PCM

Load into VirtualDub. Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying". Set "Audio" to "Full Processing". Under "Audio", select "Conversion" and set to 44,100. Select "Compression" and select "MP3" and whichever 44,100 sampling rate you prefer. From the "File" dropdown menu, select "Save as AVI" and enter a new filename.

        Let us know of your success ;>}

If you can watch the whole movie without problems if you start from the beginning, it has nothing to do with CSS. The jpg you attached looks like there is something wrong with the keyframes. Maybe you got a broken or incompatible version of DivX. Maybe you should download and install the DivX-codec again.

looks like a macroblock glitch to me.

instead of divx3 try ms v2.

Thanks for the instructions setarip, I will definately try that next time I want to rip another DVD. A bit of crossed-fingers and with any luck it might work.

              Thanks a lot.

To benderman, I will download DivX again and try it. Hopefully soon they might bring out a new version that might fix this problem.

              Thanks for your response.

Any finally, UncasMS, could you explain to me what macroblocks are. I have heard the term before, and from what I understand, macroblocks are squares that appear if you encode your movie with a bitrate that is too low. Maybe your talking about something else?

              A response would be appreciated.
