    Stats:

For the week ending August 12, 2017, here are the stats:

    Percentage of revenue:
    Blu-ray vs DVD: 34.00% vs 66.00%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $22.21 million
DVD sales total spending: $43.11 million

    These stats available from here:

    Home Media Magazine

    Top 10:

Both Blu-ray and DVD spending dropped slightly compared to the previous week, as a fairly underwhelming release slate took its toll.

New release King Arthur: Legend of the Sword was the top seller for the week, easily beating the next new release, the third placed Snatched.

The other two releases fell outside of the top 10, with Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul coming in at 11th and Jackie Chan's Kung Fu Yoga at 18th.

Outside of the top 20, but within the Blu-ray and DVD top 20, was The Hunter's Prayer at 20th on that chart.

As you can see, these were hardly the box office smash hits, and as a result, all the metrics dropped, including weekly Blu-ray market share.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Both 'King Arthur: Legend of the Sword' and 'Snatched' were available on UHD, making it 7 out of 10 the number of titles in the top 10 that were also available on Ultra HD Blu-ray.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
    1. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword+
    2. The Boss Baby+
    3. Snatched+
    4. The Fate of the Furious+
    5. Kong: Skull Island+
    6. Ghost in the Shell+
    7. Going in Style
    8. Beauty and the Beast
    9. Shin Godzilla
    10. The Lego Batman Movie+

Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray Sales Share:

BD sales share for a title is the percentage of disc packages sold for this movie that contained the Blu-ray edition of the film (including combos, and Ultra HD editions). So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

'King Arthur: Legend of the Sword' managed to outdo all the other new releases in terms of BD sales share, with a respectable 55.42%.

The others all failed to get above 50%, with 'Snatched' at 35%, 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul' at 32% and 'The Hunter's Prayer' at 30%.

'King Arthur: Legend of the Sword' was also available on 3D and UHD, with its 3D sales share at 1.35% compared to the UHD sales share of 5.75%. 'Snatched' managed a UHD sales share of only 1%.

DVD sales total spending: $44.70 million

    Top 10:

A very quiet week in which the top selling new release only came 5th. That new release was Going in Style. The next two new releases weren't far behind though, with Shin Godzilla and The Circle in 6th and 7th respectively.

That was it for the top 10 though. In 16th place, Colossal was also new, and outside of the top 20 (but inside the Blu-ray and DVD top 20) was 'Pure Country: Pure Heart' (a Walmart exclusive) in 9th and The Legend of Ben Hall in 20th.

The low popularity of the new releases meant that Blu-ray revenue took a tumble compared to last week.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: None of the new releases were made available on Ultra HD Blu-ray format. 6 titles in the top 10 were available on Ultra HD Blu-ray.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
    1. The Boss Baby+
    2. Ghost in the Shell+
    3. The Fate of the Furious+
    4. Kong: Skull Island+
    5. Going in Style

    9. John Wick Chapter 2+
    10. Smurfs: The Lost Village+

'Shin Godzilla' had the best BD sales share of all Blu-ray titles this week, with 80.54%.

The next best belonged to 'The Circle', with 45.39%.

'Going in Style' got 36%, while 'The Legend of Ben Hall' got 31%. 'Pure Country: Pure Heart' only got 18%, which explains why it didn't make the Blu-ray top 20.

None of the previously mentioned new releases had either UHD or 3D editions.

    Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue remained relatively unchanged for the week ending July 29, 2017. The biggest release for the week, an A-list release, was The Boss Baby. It easily outsold the week's second top seller, which was also a new release, Ghost in the Shell.

There were 3 other new releases in the top 20, with the best selling being Gifted in 7th place.

Just outside of the top 10 was Unforgettable in 13th, Dragon Ball Super: Part One in 14th and then Black Butterfly in 17th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Both 'The Boss Baby' and 'Ghost in the Shell' were available on Ultra HD Blu-ray (and on 3D as well). Just like last week, 8 titles in the top 10 were available on Ultra HD Blu-ray.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
    1. The Boss Baby+

'Ghost in the Shell' led the BD sales share charts with 72.76%, only a whisker above the 72.42% earned by 'Dragon Ball Super: Part One'.

'The Boss Baby' managed a respectable and not at all baby sized 55.03% while 'Black Butterfly' got 45.66%.

'Gifted' and 'Unforgettable' got 42% and 37% respectively.

For the two titles that had both UHD and 3D packages, 'Ghost in the Shell' easily beat 'The Boss Baby' on UHD, with a UHD sales share of 11.37% vs 1%. The same victory was observed for the 3D editions, although by a smaller margin - 'Ghost' beat 'Baby' with 2.58% compared to 0.51%.

    Top 10:

Weekly Blu-ray market share remained above 40%, despite falling revenue for both Blu-ray and DVD, thanks to the release of another A-list title in the form of Kong: Skull Island, which was also the week's top seller.

Other than the 'Kong: Skull Island/Godzilla' double pack, which was a Walmart exclusive, that came in at 10th, the other new releases for the week were Resident Evil: Vendetta in 6th and Free Fire in 14th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Both 'Kong: Skull Island' and 'Resident Evil: Vendetta' were available in Ultra HD Blu-ray. It was almost a clean sweep for UHD in the top 10, with no less than 8 titles in the top 10 all available on Ultra HD Blu-ray.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
    1. Kong: Skull Island+
    2. The Fate of the Furious+

With the two UHD releases in the top 20, 'Resident Evil: Vendetta' did extremely well with 18.09%, while 'Kong: Skull Island' didn't do too bad either with 8.89%. The latest King Kong movie was also available on 3D, with a 3D sales share of 3.08%.

'Kong' was up against a real heavyweight in the year-on-year comparison, as this time last year, 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' was released. The "all red" week is understandable, therefore.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $11.88m (down 27.2%), while DVD sales decreased by $7.01m (down 13.2%) producing $18.89 million less in combined revenue.

    Top 10:

An A-list release in the form of The Fate of the Furious helped Blu-ray and DVD sales pick up from last week, and nearly got Blu-ray over the $40 million mark for the week.

There were two other new releases, and a couple of re-releases on Ultra HD Blu-ray, that rounded off the week.

In a very distant second place was Smurfs: The Lost Village (the Smurfs 3 movie collection also got into the top 20, at 19th).

Amazon original production, The Lost City of Z, finished in 7th place, while Game of Thrones: The Complete Seasons 1-6 got back into the top 20 at 11th thanks to the (then imminent) release of the new season.

The Ultra HD Blu-ray re-releases comes via King Kong in 12th (the 12th place finish on the Blu-ray sales chart includes all Blu-ray versions, including the standard 1080p version as well as the new 4K version) and The Fifth Element in 14th.

All of these new releases helped Blu-ray market share jump more than 10% compared to the previous week.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: 'The Fate of the Furious' and 'Smurfs: The Lost Village' both had UHD editions. Seven titles in the Blu-ray top 10 all had UHD editions.

Being a re-release, 'King Kong' had a gargantuan BD sales share of 85.23%. 'The Lost City of Z' didn't too bad either, second place on the BD sales share chart with 78.00%.

'The Fate of the Furious' had a BD sales share of 65.37%, which wasn't too bad. 'Smurfs: The Lost Village' failed to get above 50% with 42%.

As for the UHD sales share, the re-release 'King Kong' topped the UHD BD sales share chart with 62.88%. 'The Fate of the Furious' got a respectable 6.08%, while 'Smurfs: The Lost Village' only got 1%. There were no new notable 3D releases.

A lack of new releases, and the 4th of July holiday, meant that Blu-ray and DVD revenue dropped compared to last week.

The most popular new release actually only finished in 6th place, and it was The Zookeeper's Wife. It was the only new release in the entire top 20. This isn't too hard to understand, since studios rarely want to release new movies during holiday weeks (unless it's something 4th of July related).

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: "The Zookeeper's Wife" was not released on UHD, and so no new UHD releases in the top 20 this week. Five titles in the Blu-ray top 10 had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):

    Top 10:

Blu-ray and DVD revenue continued to drop from recent highs, despite the presence of 5 new releases in the top 20.

Power Rangers was the top selling new release and overall top seller on Blu-ray for the week, toppling the recent top seller 'Beauty and the Beast'.

It's all the way down to 5th for the next new release, CHiPs.

The other three new releases fell outside of the top 10, with T2 Trainspotting coming closest at 11th, followed by The Belko Experiment in 15th and Yu-Gi-Oh! - The Dark Side of Dimensions in 16th.

'Power Rangers' only did okay at the box office, and so without the availability of a real "A-list" release, naturally, disc sales dropped compared to recent weeks, as did weekly Blu-ray market share.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Both 'Power Rangers' and 'T2' were available on UHD. 'Power Rangers' is an interesting release in that it's the first UHD title with Dolby Vision to come from studio Lionsgate (and one of the very few Dolby Vision titles available, at the moment). Five titles in the Blu-ray top 10 had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):

'Yu-Gi-Oh! - The Dark Side of Dimensions' managed 47.55% while 'CHiPs' got 45.39%.

The two Ultra HD releases, 'Power Rangers' and 'T2' both did relatively well with UHD sale shares of 6.58% and 6.26% respectively.

Blu-ray revenue came back down from the recent highs as the release schedule for the week did not contain an A-list release like in recent weeks.

The best selling new release was Life, but it could only climb as high as 4th on the Blu-ray sales chart, within a whisker of the third best seller, 'The Lego Batman Movie'.

And not only do we not get any big releases this week, we also don't have too many releases altogether. The only other new release in the top 20 was Jackie Chan's Railroad Tigers in 11th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: 'Life' did come with a UHD edition, but 'Railroad Tigers' did not. Five titles in the Blu-ray top 10 had UHD editions.

The Ultra HD edition of 'Life' managed a UHD BD sales share of 3.58%.

    Stats:

For the week ending June 17, 2017, here are the stats:

    Percentage of revenue:
    Blu-ray vs DVD: 47.75% vs 52.25%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $50.27 million
DVD sales total spending: $55.01 million

    These stats available from here:

    Home Media Magazine

    Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue stayed above the $50 million mark again this week on the back of not one but two fairly major releases, combined with last week's top seller, 'Beauty and the Beast', continuing to sell strongly. Despite the bigger box office draw, The Lego Batman Movie only came in third behind the aforementioned Disney live action remake in second place, and new release John Wick Chapter 2 in top spot. All 3 titles weren't too far apart either, in terms of sales.

The other two new releases in the top 20 were a bit more apart. Mine came 17th while Dragonheart: Battle for the Heartfire came in at 20th.

So while Blu-ray revenue did drop a bit compared to the high of last week, DVD revenue did grow.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Both of the top 2 selling new releases had Ultra HD editions and 'John Wick Chapter 2' was especially well received on UHD, just like the first John Wick movie. Five titles in the Blu-ray top 10 had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
    1. John Wick Chapter 2+
    2. Beauty and the Beast
    3. The Lego Batman Movie+
    4. Logan+
    5. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them+
    6. Bambi: Signature Collection
    7. Rogue One
    8. John Wick+
    9. Moana
    10. The Shack

'John Wick Chapter 2' not only led the Blu-ray sales chart, it was also the best of the new releases in terms of BD sales share (or maybe it was because of the high BD sales share that allowed the sequel to top the Blu-ray sales chart). 'John Wick Chapter 2' managed 64.48%.

'The Lego Batman Movie' was so very close behind too on the BD sales share chart, with 64.35%.

    'Mine' got 39%.

The Ultra HD edition of 'John Wick Chapter 2' got a high UHD BD sales share of 10.04% (meaning 1 in 10 copies sold contained the UHD edition), higher than the 3.35% for 'The Lego Batman Movie'. 'The Lego Batman Movie' was also available on 3D, with a 3D BD sales share of 2.04%.

For the week ending June 10, 2017, here are the stats:

    Percentage of revenue:
    Blu-ray vs DVD: 51.86% vs 48.14%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $56.26 million
DVD sales total spending: $52.23 million

    These stats available from here:

    Top 10:

There's a big new release this week and it was so big that it helped Blu-ray market share go over the 50% mark for the third time ever in history, and the other two times were all for Disney (Star Wars) titles. Blu-ray revenue was also over the $50 million mark for the first time since the April Easter sales.

Disney's live action remake of Beauty and the Beast easily outsold everything this week, including last week's number one, 'Logan'.

Bambi: Signature Collection was the next best selling new release in a distant 3rd place, and being a re-release, it too helped with the Blu-ray market share figure.

That was it for new releases in the top 10, but there were a couple of others beyond it. A Cure for Wellness was in 11th, while The Assignment was in 12th.

Aftermath was in 19th, and there was even one that failed to make the Blu-ray top 20, but got in the combined Blu-ray and DVD top 20, I Am Dragon (18th on the combined list).

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Sadly none of this week's previously mentioned new releases were available on Ultra HD Blu-ray. As a result, only four titles in the Blu-ray top 10 had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
    1. Beauty and the Beast
    2. Logan+

    6. Moana

Being a re-release, naturally 'Bambi' had the best BD sales share, with 77.42%. Beauty and the Beast wasn't too far behind though, with 72.36%.

'A Cure for Wellness' also managed to get over the magical 50% mark with 56.77%, while 'The Assignment' just missed out with 47%.

'Aftermath' and 'I Am Dragon' got 31% and 27% respectively.

DVD sales total spending: $45.41 million

    These stats available from here:

    Top 10:

Blu-ray sales dropped back by quite a bit this week, but DVD sales surprisingly remained resilient - this is most likely due to the type of new releases this week that may appeal more to DVD buyers than Blu-ray buyers.

The top selling Blu-ray title this week was still 'Logan', but in second place was the highest selling new release, The Shack.

It easily outsold the third placed title, another new release, Fist Fight.

That was it for the action within the top 10, but in the top 20 was a couple of new releases, The Blackcoat's Daughter in 13th and Before I Fall in 20th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: None of the previously mentioned new releases were made available on UHD, which probably didn't help with the weekly Blu-ray market share, dropping back 8 percentage points compared to last week. Five out of the tpten number of titles in the Blu-ray top 10 that had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
    1. Logan+
    2. The Shack
    3. Fist Fight
    4. The Great Wall+
    5. Get Out
    6. Fifty Shades Darker+

You might be interested to find out that it was actually 'The Blackcoat's Daughter' that had the week's best BD sales share result, with a massive 96.07%.

'Before I Fall' managed 43%, but the other two new releases only did averagely on Blu-ray, which explains this week's less than stellar weekly Blu-ray market share results. 'Fist Fight' got 39% while 'The Shack' got 34%.

None of this week's mentioned new releases were available on 3D or UHD.

    Top 10:

Some big releases this week helped Blu-ray revenue rise by more than $10m compared to last week.

The top seller, which was a new release, was Logan sitting comfortably at top way ahead of the second placed (and also new release), The Great Wall.

Get Out was the next best selling new release in 8th place.

The next two new releases, coincidentally, were all dog movies (making it 3 dog movies in the top 20 - surely a first!). Rock Dog was the better selling of the two, coming in at 9th, while Max 2: White House Hero came in at 15th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: The top two sellers, 'Logan' and 'The Great Wall', all had UHD editions, making it five out of ten the number of titles in the Blu-ray top 10 that had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):

'Logan' had the best BD sales share of all Blu-ray titles, not just new releases, this week with 72.79%. With 59.66%, 'The Great Wall' also did very well on Blu-ray. No surprises that both had UHD versions as well, which might have helped with these results.

But it probably only helped a little bit as 'Get Out', which didn't have an UHD edition, also did well with 58.37%.

'Rock Dog' and 'Max 2: White House Hero' got 38% and 25% respectively.

As mentioned previously, both the top 2 sellers had UHD editions, but none of this week's mentioned new releases had 3D editions (did anyone say "dead format"?). 'Logan' did really well on UHD, with 10.10%, while 'The Great Wall' wasn't too bad either with 6.58%.

Definitely no "all red" week here, as 'Logan' easily out-trumped 'Risen' from a year ago.

Blu-ray sales total spending: $26.41 million
DVD sales total spending: $41.29 million

    Top 10:

Both Blu-ray and DVD revenue were down compared to just a week ago, despite the release of five new releases in the Blu-ray top 20.

But none of these releases were what you would call A-list releases, with most of these movies having failed to make a big impact at the box office.

The top seller for the week was still a new release, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, although on DVD, it was another new release that topped the chart - Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (the last Resident Evil movie finished second on the Blu-ray chart).

It's then all the way down to 11th for the next new release, The Space Between Us.

Two box set collections made the top 20 as well, including Resident Evil: The Complete Collection in 14th and The Mummy Ultimate Collection in 15th.

On the combined Blu-ray and DVD chart was another new release, Wonder Woman: Commemorative Edition in 13th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only the top two sellers had UHD editions, making it seven out of ten the number of titles in the Blu-ray top 10 that had UHD editions. Not too shabby at all.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
    1. xXx: Return of Xander Cage+
    2. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter+

'The Mummy' box set had the highest BD sales share - a DVD edition was made available, but I don't think many people purchased that one - it ended up with a BD sales share of 95.17%. Despite not making the Blu-ray top 20, 'Wonder Woman' got 62.06%, even ahead of this week's top seller 'xXx: Return of Xander Cage' which managed 57.87%.

'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter' got 52.70%, while 'The Space Between Us' just missed out on reaching half a century with 49%.

As mentioned previously, both the top 2 sellers had UHD editions, but 'xXx: Return of Xander Cage' also had a 3D edition which didn't do very well - only responsible for 0.54% of all sales for the movie. Its UHD edition did much better with 6.02%, but it was still behind the 7.45% for 'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter'.

Another "all red" week prevented thanks for Blu-ray weekly market share. I guess the team-up of 'Resident Evil' and 'xXx', both extremely tired franchises to be fair, could not go up against 'Dirty Grandpa' and a still very strong selling 'Deadpool' from this time last year.

    Top 10:

Blu-ray and DVD revenue rose slightly compared to last week, and it was largely down to one new release and one new re-release, the top selling Fifty Shades Darker.

It was otherwise a quiet week for Blu-ray, with the only other new release in the top 20 being the previously mentioned re-release,
Heat: Director's Definitive Edition in 11th place.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: 'Fifty Shades Darker' was available on Ultra HD Blu-ray, but that was it in terms of top selling titles on UHD. 6 of the top 10 Blu-ray sellers all had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):

    Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue dropped slightly compared to last week, as the new release line-up this week was relatively weak.

A Dog's Purpose was the best selling of the new releases, but it failed to outsell 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story', which took back top spot.

The next new release was all the way down in 9th, Rings, with Gold finishing outside of the top 10 in 11th.

And that was it in terms of new releases.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: None of this week's top selling new releases were available on Ultra HD Blu-ray. This meant that only 4 out of the top 10 titles on Blu-ray this week had a UHD edition to go along with it.
